Marble version 1.12.20 and Working internet connection
Ubuntu Linux OS, version 18.04 Marble version 2.2.20

To practise this tutorial, the learner should be familiar with Marble interface

I have opened the Marble interface. | |
Click on theOpenStreetMapview
Zoom in. Point on our home locationMumbai.
From the context menu selectHide option. Right click on Compass. From the context menu selectHide option. Right click on Scale bar. From the context menu selectHide option.

Go toMap View and select OpenStreetMapview.
|
Let us hide latitudes and longitudes for better visibility of the map.
Go to the Legend panel and uncheck Coordinate Grid check box.

Click on theSettingsmenu and select Panels.

Let us make theEdit Maps panel visible, if it is not seen on the interface.

Point on Edit Maps panel and click on it Point onAdd Placemark, Add polygon, Add path, AddGroundoverlayand others. |
In theEdit Mapspanel we see some icons.

Let us first learn to add a placemark on the map.
We will add a placemark on the location ofIIT Bombay. Zoom in and locateIIT Bombay. |
Click onAdd Placemarkoption.
Point onEdit Placemarkdialogue box |
Go toEdit Mapspanel and click onAdd Placemark icon .
Edit Placemarkdialogue box opens on the interface.

In theName fieldtype the name asIIT Bombay.

Under Label click on the Color button. Select colour window opens.

In the Description field, type the information given in the code files link.

Click on the Description tab.

Let us now add a polygon to highlight a particular area on the map.
We will add a polygon to highlightKerala on the map.

Zoom in and locateKeralaon the map.
Click on theAdd Polygonicon.

Point onAdd polygon dialogue box.
Type the name as Kerala in theName field. |

In theName field type the name asKerala |
Drag the dialogue box to the side of the interface. | Let us re-size and place the dialogue box to the left side of the interface. |
Click onStyle ,Coloroption.

Click onStyle, Colortab.
Let us select colours forLinesandAreaof the polygon.

Point on theWidthdropdown button.

We see aWidthdropdown button next toLines.
We can select the line width here. I will choose the line width as 1.5.
Select colour window opens. From the color box I will select magenta forArea. click on the OK button. |
Click onNodes option.

Now click onNodes tab.

Node is a point on the map.
It specifies the longitude and latitude of a particular place. |

Let us now start markingNodesto draw a polygon on the map of Kerala. |
Give nodes on the border of Kerala.

To mark the area with nodes, click anywhere on the boundary ofkerala.
keep clicking all along the boundary.

Point on the polygon area in the map |
Let us complete the full area of kerala.

Point to the Add path icon. Go to our PlacemarkIITBombayand zoom in . Go to our home location Mumbai |
Next icon isAdd path.
If we wish to add some lines or path in the map we can useAdd pathtool. Let us go to our home location Mumbai. We will add a path from Pune to Solapur on the map.

Locate Thane and Airoli on the map.
Place the cursor on the label Thane. |
Locate Pune and Solapur on the map.

Click onAdd pathicon.

Click onAdd Path icon.
Add pathdialog box opens on the interface. In theNamefield I will type the name asPath-1.

Click on theColorbox.
From theColorwindow I will select Violet colour.

Next we will selectColorandWidthfor our path .
Click on the color button under Lines.
blue colour.
I will choose the color width as 1.5.

Click on theNodestab in the dialog box
move this window to a convenient location. Startmarking thenodes one by one.

Click on theNodestab in the dialog box.
|
Click on the OK button in the Add path dialog box.
|
After completing the path click on theOKbutton in theAdd Path dialog box.

Click on theSave Annotation FIleicon. |
Let us save all the annotations we have made on this map.

Point to Save Annotation FIle dialog box .
|
Save Annotation FIle dialog box opens on the interface.
I will select Desktopfolder.
|
In the File name field type the name asAnnotation-1.kml.
Cursor onFiles of Type dropdown.
|
In theFile namefield type the name asAnnotation-1.kml.
Please note that file format should be.kmlor .osm.
|
Go to theDesktop folder.
Point to Annotation-1.kml on theDesktop.
|
Let us check our annotation file.
Go to theDesktop folder.
|
Right-click on the file.
Select the optionOpen with KDE Marble. Point to all the annotations. |
To open the file, right-click on the file.
Notice that all annotations made on the map have been saved in this file.
