Point to Calculus | In the navigation menu on the left, notice Calculus under My Courses.
All the courses for which you are enrolled as a teacher or student will be listed here. |
Click on Calculus | Click on the Calculus course. |
Highlight the course topics and summaries. | We updated the course topics and summaries in the preceding tutorials.

We will now learn about some useful course settings. | |
Click on the gear icon | Click on the gear icon at the top right of the section. |

In the General section, we have Course full name.

We can change Course start date, Course end date and Course ID number, as per our requirements. |

There are 3 ways to upload a file:

If you click on Upload or Add icon or on the downward arrow, the File picker dialog box opens.

Click on Browse button >> select a file >>select calculus.jpg | Click on the Browse or Choose File button.
I will select calculus.jpg from my system. |
Point to the Save as field | You can give it a different name by typing it in the Save as field. |
Point to Author and Choose license fields | Specify the author and license details in the respective fields. |
Point to Upload this file button but don’t click | Lastly, click on Upload this file button at the bottom. |
So that’s how we can upload Course summary files.

Click on Course format dropdown | Course format refers to the way resources and activities are organized for the students. |
Point to the 4 options as per narration.

There are 4 options in Format dropdown -

Point to Topics format.
|
Our admin has selected Topics format.
We will let it remain as it is. |
Click on Hidden sections dropdown. | Next setting is for Hidden sections.
|
Select Hidden sections are shown in collapsed form. | Choosing this option will display the content in collapsed form to the students. |
Then select Hidden sections are completely invisible. | Choosing this option will hide the content from the students. |
Select Hidden sections are shown in collapsed form | We will let it remain as default, for now. |
Click on Course Layout. | The next drop-down is Course Layout. Click on it. |
Click on Show all sections in one page. | We can choose to show all sections in one page, by selecting this option. |
Click on show one section per page. | Another option here is Show one section per page.

Click on Show all sections in one page. | We will let it remain on Show all sections in one page, for now. |
Point to Appearance section | Next is the Appearance section. |
Show gradebook to students -> Yes | Notice the Show gradebook to students option.
This option determines whether a student can see those grades.

Show activity reports -> Yes | We will change Show activity reports as Yes, if not already selected by default.
|
Highlight Maximum upload size field | We can set the maximum size of the files that can be uploaded for this course.
Let us keep the size as it is. |
We will let all the other settings remain at their default values. | |
Click on Save and display | Scroll down and click on the Save and display button.
|
Highlight Announcements | Notice the Announcements link above the topic names. |
This will let the students know about mandatory information, latest news, announcements, etc. | |
Click on the gear icon.
Click on Turn Editing On. |
Click on the gear icon at the top right of the page and then on Turn Editing On.
|
Click on Edit -> Edit settings | Now, to the right of Announcements,
click on Edit and then Edit Settings. |
Description: Please check the announcements regularly. | And in Description I will type the following text.
“Please check the announcements regularly”.

Leave all other settings as they are. | |
Click on Save and return | Scroll down and click on the button Save and return to course.

Click on Announcements | To add more announcements, click on the Announcements title. |
Click Add a new topic

Now click on Add a new topic button.
Type the message as “This course requires you to submit a minimum of 3 assignments and attempt 5 quizzes to pass”. |
Highlight Discussion subscription

Notice that the checkbox Discussion subscription is checked and is non-editable.

Next is Attachments. You can either drag and drop or upload related files here.

Highlight Send forum post notifications with no editing-time delay | Tick the next checkbox, as well.

Expand Display period

Highlight the message | A success message is displayed.

Topic 1: Basic Calculus: (6 lectures) Evolutes and involutes; Evaluation of definite and improper integrals; Beta and Gamma functions and their properties; Applications of definite integrals to evaluate surface areas and volumes of revolutions. Topic 2: Intermediate Calculus: (6 lectures) Rolle’s Theorem, Mean value theorems, Taylor’s and Maclaurin theorems with remainders; indeterminate forms and L'Hospital's rule; Maxima and minima. Topic 3: Sequences and series: (10 lectures) Convergence of sequence and series, tests for convergence; Power series, Taylor's series, series for exponential, trigonometric and logarithm functions; Fourier series: Half range sine and cosine series, Parseval’s theorem. Topic 4: Multivariable Calculus (Differentiation): (8 lectures) Limit, continuity and partial derivatives, directional derivatives, total derivative; Tangent plane and normal line; Maxima, minima and saddle points; Method of Lagrange multipliers; Gradient, curl and divergence. Topic 5: Matrices (10 lectures) Inverse and rank of a matrix, rank-nullity theorem; System of linear equations; Symmetric, skew-symmetric and orthogonal matrices; Determinants; Eigenvalues and eigenvectors; Diagonalization of matrices; Cayley-Hamilton Theorem, and Orthogonal transformation. |
