00:00 | Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on “Rocket animation” using Synfig. |
00:06 | In this tutorial, we will learn to create:
Fire effect, |
00:11 | Cut out effect, |
00:13 | Change slope & offset parameters and Feather effect. |
00:19 | We will also learn to do a rocket animation using all of the above. |
00:24 | To record this tutorial, I am using:
Ubuntu Linux 14.04 OS, Synfig version 1.0.2 |
00:34 | Let us open Synfig. |
00:36 | I have a rocket image in my Documents folder. |
00:40 | I have created this image in Inkscape. |
00:43 | Let us import the image. Go to File. Click on Import. |
00:49 | Select the Rocket image. Click on Import. |
00:53 | Group the rocket image. Name the group layer as Rocket. |
00:59 | Using the orange dot in the handle, reduce the size of the image as shown. |
01:06 | Press Ctrl and S keys to save our file. |
01:11 | I will save the file in the Desktop. Change the filename to Rocket hyphen animation. |
01:20 | Click on Save. Now, let us create the fire. |
01:23 | Change the Fill color to black and the Outline color to white. |
01:31 | Go to Layers panel. Right click on the Rocket group layer. |
01:36 | Select New layer, click on Gradient and then on Noise Gradient. |
01:43 | A black and white noise gradient is created on the canvas. |
01:47 | Go to Tool box. Click on Gradient tool. |
01:52 | In the Tool options, click on create a linear gradient. |
01:57 | Now, click and drag the on the canvas from top to bottom. |
02:02 | Observe a black and white linear gradient is created on the canvas. |
02:08 | Select the Transform tool.
Change the layer name to BW-Gradient. |
02:16 | In the Parameters panel, change the Blend method to Subtract. |
02:22 | Select the Rectangle tool. Draw a rectangle covering the whole canvas. |
02:29 | Click on the Transform tool and change the layer name to Orange. |
02:35 | Now, let us change the color of the rectangle to warm orange. |
02:40 | In the Parameters panel, click on the Color parameter. |
02:45 | Change the RGB values to 100, 55 and 10 respectively.
Close the dialog box. |
02:56 | Again in the Parameters panel, change the Blend method to Color. |
03:01 | Group the Noise gradient layer. Change the name to Moving-base. |
03:10 | In the Parameters panel, right click on Origin. |
03:14 | Click on Convert and then on Linear. |
03:19 | Click on the drop down list of Origin. |
03:22 | Change the Slope values to 0 and -100 and Offset values to 0 and 100 respectively. |
03:32 | Now the fire effect is created.
Click on the Play button to check the effect. |
03:38 | Next, let us cut the effect according the size of the rocket. |
03:43 | Now group all the layers except the Rocket layer. |
03:47 | Change the name to Fire. |
03:50 | Press Ctrl and S keys to save the file. |
03:54 | Go to Tool box, select the Cutout tool. |
03:58 | Cut the fire effect as shown. Observe the group layer name has changed to Fire cut. |
04:06 | Select Transform tool. |
04:09 | Using the orange dot of the handle, reduce the size of the fire. |
04:14 | Move this layer below the Rocket layer. |
04:19 | Click on the drop down list. Select the Mask layer. Now we can adjust the nodes. |
04:27 | In the Parameters panel, change the Feather parameter to 25. |
04:33 | Observe the feather effect is applied to the fire. |
04:38 | We will now animate the fire. Click on Turn on animate editing mode icon. |
04:44 | Go to 3rd frame. Add a keyframe in the Keyframes panel. |
04:49 | Adjust the nodes of the fire as shown. |
04:56 | Now go the 6th frame. In the Keyframes panel, Duplicate the zeroeth frame. |
05:03 | Next, we will loop this fire animation. So, right click on the Fire cut group layer. |
05:10 | Click on New layer, then on Other and on Time loop. |
05:17 | In the Parameters panel, change the Duration parameter to 12. |
05:24 | Tick on the checkbox of Only for Positive Duration.
Click on Play button to check the animation. |
05:33 | Next, let us animate the rocket. So, group all the layers. |
05:39 | Change the Group layer name to Rocket. |
05:42 | Go to zeroth frame. Move the rocket to the bottom of the canvas as shown. |
05:48 | Now, go to 100th frame. Move the rocket to the top of the canvas. |
05:55 | Now the rocket animation is done. |
05:58 | Let us add a background image now which I created in Inkscape. |
06:03 | I have saved this image in Documents folder. |
06:06 | Go to File. Click on Import. |
06:11 | Move the layer below the Rocket group layer. |
06:15 | Press Ctrl and S keys to save the file. |
06:18 | Lastly we will render the animation.
Go to File. Click on Render. |
06:25 | I will save the output in the Desktop.
Change the extension to avi. Target to ffmpeg. |
06:34 | Now click on Render. |
06:37 | We will now check our animation.
Go to Desktop. Right click on the output file and play our animation. |
06:45 | Our rocket animation looks like this. |
06:48 | With thi,s we have come to the end of this tutorial.
Let us summarize. |
