00:01 | Welcome to the spoken tutorial on Create a MARC Framework. |
00:07 | In this tutorial, we will learn to create a MARC Framework in Koha. |
00:14 | To record this tutorial, I am using:
Ubuntu Linux Operating System 16.04 and Koha version 16.05 |
00:27 | To follow this tutorial, you should have knowledge of Library Science. |
00:33 | To practice this tutorial, you should have Koha installed on your system.
And, you should also have Admin access in Koha. |
00:44 | If not, please refer to the Koha spoken tutorial series on this website. |
00:50 | Before we begin, note that- Frameworks can be edited or deleted. |
00:57 | Superlibrarian can create their own frameworks, as per the requirement of their libraries. |
01:05 | Let us begin. Let me switch to the 'Koha' interface. |
01:11 | Login with Superlibrarian username Bella and her password. |
01:17 | Now we are inside the Koha interface as Superlibrarian Bella. |
01:25 | Go to Koha administration. |
01:29 | Under the section Catalog, click on MARC bibliographic framework. |
01:36 | A new page opens. |
01:40 | Click on plus New framework. |
01:44 | Another page opens up, prompting us to fill in the details-
Framework code: and Description: |
01:54 | In the field for Framework code, I will type BK. |
02:01 | For Description:, I will type BOOKS. |
02:06 | Next, click on Submit button at the bottom. |
02:11 | On the new page that opens, go to the Code BK i.e. BOOKS. |
02:18 | From the tab Actions, click on MARC structure. |
02:25 | A new page MARC Framework for BOOKS (BK) opens up.
Under this title, click on the OK button here. |
02:35 | Another page with the same title MARC Framework for BOOKS (BK) opens. |
02:40 | This shows tags from 1 to 20 of 342 tags. |
02:48 | However, you may see more number of tags on your screen. |
02:53 | Note that there are a total of 342 default tags.
I will select only a few tags for Books. You may choose tags as per your requirement. |
03:08 | Notice here that there are options to Edit or Delete a tag. |
03:14 | I will demonstrate how to Delete. |
03:17 | I will choose the tag number 010- Library of Congress Control Number. |
03:25 | Upon clicking the Delete tab at the extreme right side, a pop-up window appears asking-
“Confirm deletion of tag '010'?” |
03:40 | Click on Yes, delete this tag. |
03:44 | Another window appears with the message ‘Tag deleted’. Click Ok. |
03:51 | The same page MARC Framework for Books (BK) appears again. |
03:56 | On this page, ‘Tag’ number 010 will no longer be shown. |
04:03 | Similarly, delete any other tags which may not be relevant to a particular item type. |
04:11 | To edit the tags, go to Actions and choose the Edit option. |
04:17 | I will go for tag number 000, Leader. |
04:24 | Then click on Edit. |
04:27 | The following fields are filled by default, by Koha itself-
Label for lib: , Label for opac:. |
04:38 | Note that: The 'Label for lib' will show up in the staff client.
The 'Label for OPAC' will show up on the MARC view, in the OPAC. |
04:50 | As per your requirement, check the check-box for Repeatable: |
04:56 | Koha will, by default, check the check-box for Mandatory. |
05:02 | I will check the check-box for Repeatable:. |
05:06 | Note that if you click Repeatable' then the field will have a plus sign next to it, in Cataloging. |
05:16 | This is basically required for more than 3 authors or editors, allowing you to add many more details of the same tag. |
05:27 | If 'Mandatory' is clicked or auto-selected by Koha then the record will not be allowed to save, unless you allocate a value to this particular tag. |
05:43 | Let’s go back to the Koha interface. |
05:46 | After filling in all the details, click on Save changes. |
05:52 | In the new page that opens up, note that for tag number 000, Leader: Repeatable and Mandatory will appear as Yes. |
06:05 | Next, let us learn how to enable Authority file. |
06:10 | Go to Koha Administration. |
06:13 | And click on Global system preferences. |
06:18 | Acquisitions preferences page opens. |
06:23 | From the list of tabs on the left side, click on Authorities. |
06:30 | Under the section General, start changing the Value of Preference as follows: |
06:37 | For AuthDisplayHierarchy, select Display from the drop-down. |
06:44 | For AutoCreateAuthorities, select generate. |
06:50 | For BiblioAddsAuthorities, select allow.
For dontmerge, select Do. |
07:01 | Leave-MARCAuthorityControlField008 and UNIMARCAuthorityField100 as it is. |
07:11 | For UseAuthoritiesForTracings, Koha, by default, selects Use. |
07:19 | Under the section Linker, default values should be retained for- CatalogModuleRelink, |
07:28 | LinkerKeepStale, LinkerModule, |
07:33 | LinkerOptions and LinkerRelink. |
07:38 | Now, click on Save all Authorities preferences. |
07:43 | You may now log out from the Superlibrarian account of Koha. |
07:48 | To do so, go to the top right corner. |
07:52 | Click on Spoken Tutorial Library and from the drop-down, select Log out. |
07:59 | This completes all the setup required for MARC Framework. |
08:04 | Let us summarize. In this tutorial, we learnt to create a MARC Framework in Koha. |
08:13 | As an assignment- Create a new MARC Framework for Serials. |
08:20 | The video at the following link summarizes the Spoken Tutorial project. Please download and watch it. |
08:28 | The Spoken Tutorial Project team conducts workshops and gives certificates. For more details, please write to us. |
08:38 | Please post your timed queries in this forum. |
08:42 | Spoken Tutorial project is funded by NMEICT, MHRD, Government of India. More information on this mission is available at this link. |
