  • You should have Koha installed on your system.
  • You should also have Admin access in Koha.

Before we begin, note that-

Show Koha interface Let us begin.

Let me switch to the Koha interface.

Login with Username and password Login with Superlibrarian username Bella and her password.
Show interface Now we are inside the Koha interface as Superlibrarian Bella
Go to Koha administration Go to Koha administration.
Cursor on Catalog-

Click on MARC bibliographic framework

Under the section Catalog, click on MARC bibliographic framework.
Cursor on MARC frameworks A new page opens.
Click on +New framework Click on plus New framework.

Description:

Another page opens up, prompting us to fill in the details-

Cursor on Framework code >> type BK In the field for Framework code, I will type BK.
Cursor on Description: >> type BOOKS For Description: I will type BOOKS.
Click Submit Next, click on Submit button at the bottom.
New page >> go to the Code BK i.e. BOOKS On the new page that opens, go to the Code BK i.e. BOOKS.
Cursor on tab Actions

Click on MARC structure

From the tab Actions, click on MARC structure.
Cursor on ‘MARC Framework for BOOKS (BK)’ A new page MARC Framework for BOOKS (BK) opens up.

Under this title, click on the OK button here.

Cursor on Showing 1 to 20 of 342 Another page with the same title MARC Framework for BOOKS (BK) opens.

This shows tags from 1 to 20 of 342 tags.

However, you may see more number of tags on your screen.

Tags in MARC Framework

  • There are total 342 default tags
  • I will select only a few tags for Books
  • You may choose tags as per your requirement
Note that-

Narration only Notice here that there are options to Edit or Delete a tag.
Click on Delete I will demonstrate how to Delete.
Cursor on tag number 010- Library of Congress Control Number >> click on delete I will choose the tag number 010- Library of Congress Control Number.
Cursor on pop window Upon clicking the Delete tab at the extreme right side, a pop window appears asking-

“Confirm deletion of tag '010'?”

Click on Yes, delete this tag. Click on Yes, delete this tag.
Cursor on Tag delete >> Click Ok Another window appears with the message ‘Tag deleted’.

Click Ok.

Cursor on MARC Framework for Books (BK) The same page MARC Framework for Books (BK) appears again.
Cursor on Tag’, number 010 will no longer be shown On this page, ‘Tag’ number 010 will no longer be shown.
Narration only Similarly, delete any other tags which may not be relevant to a particular item type.
Point to Edit option To edit the tags, go to Actions and choose the Edit option.
Cursor on 000, Leader I will go for tag number 000, Leader.
Click on Edit Then click on Edit.

The following fields are filled by default, by Koha itself-

Note that:

  1. The 'Label for lib' will show up in the staff client.
  1. The 'Label for OPAC' will show up on the MARC view in the OPAC.
Check in the checkbox for

Repeatable:

As per your requirement, check the checkbox for Repeatable:

Mandatory:

Koha will by default check the checkbox for Mandatory
Check both the options. I will check the checkbox for Repeatable:

Note: If you click 'Repeatable' then-

  • the field will have a plus sign next to it allowing you to add multiples of that tag

If 'Mandatory' is clicked or auto-selected by Koha then-

  • the record will not be allowed to save
  • unless you allocate a value to this particular tag
Note:

  • This is basically required for more than 3 authors or editors
  • allowing you to add many more details of the same tag.


If 'Mandatory' is clicked or auto-selected by Koha then-

  • the record will not be allowed to save
  • unless you allocate a value to this particular tag.
Show Koha interface Let’s go back to the Koha interface.
Click on Save changes. After filling in all the details, click on Save changes.
Cursor on 000, Leader

Repeatable>> Yes

Mandatory>>Yes

In the new page that opens up, note that-
  • for tag number 000, Leader:
  • Repeatable and Mandatory will appear as Yes.
Narration only Next, let us learn how to enable Authority file.
Go to Koha Administration Go to Koha Administration.
Click on Global system preferences And click on Global system preferences.
Cursor on Acquisitions preferences Acquisitions preferences page opens.
Click on Authorities From the list of tabs on the left side, click on Authorities.
Cursor on General>> Under the section General, start changing the Value of Preference as follows:
  • Cursor on AuthDisplayHierarchy>> select Display
  • For AutoCreateAuthorities >> generate
  • BiblioAddsAuthorities>> allow
  • dontmerge >> Do
  • Leave both-

MARCAuthorityControlField008 and

UNIMARCAuthorityField100 as it is

  • UseAuthoritiesForTracings>> Use
  • For AuthDisplayHierarchy, select Display from the drop-down
  • For AutoCreateAuthorities, select generate.
  • For BiblioAddsAuthorities, select allow.
  • For dontmerge select Do.
  • Leave-
    • MARCAuthorityControlField008 and
    • UNIMARCAuthorityField100 as it is
  • For UseAuthoritiesForTracings, Koha by default, selects Use.
Under the section Linker, default values should be retained for-
  • CatalogModuleRelink
  • LinkerKeepStale
  • LinkerModule
  • LinkerOptions
  • LinkerRelink

Click on Save all Authorities preferences Now click on Save all Authorities preferences.
Log out >> Go to the top right corner >> click on Spoken Tutorial Library>> and from the drop down select Log out You may now log out from the Superlibrarian account of Koha


To do so go to the top right corner-

Click on Spoken Tutorial Library and from the drop down select Log out
