00:04 In this tutorial, we will learn how to use the Ubuntu Software Center,
00:09 to download, install, update and uninstall software on the Ubuntu Operating System.
00:16 What is Ubuntu Software Center?
00:18 It is a tool that allows you to manage software on the Ubuntu OS.
00:23 You can use it to search, download, install, update or uninstall a software.
00:30 Ubuntu Software Center also lists reviews and ratings for each software;
00:36 this way you have information about the software even before you use it.
00:41 It also keeps a record of the software history.
00:45 In this spoken-tutorial, we are using Ubuntu Software Center on Ubuntu version 11.10.
00:52 To proceed with the tutorial,
00:54 You must be connected to the Internet.
00:56 You need to be a System Administrator or have Administrator rights to install software.
01:04 From your Launcher, click the Ubuntu Software Center icon.

03:33 Now, click Install.
03:35 The Authentication dialog box appears.
03:38 Enter your system password.
03:42 Click Authenticate.
03:44 Look at the progress bar that indicates that VLC is being installed.
03:50 Installation may take a while depending on the number and size of the packages being installed.
03:57 The progress is also indicated by the button on the top.
04:02 You can access other applications while installation is being done.
04:07 Once VLC is installed, there is a small tick mark against VLC.
04:13 The Remove button is displayed on the right side.
04:17 If you want to uninstall VLC, simply click the Remove button.
04:23 Similarly, you can search for and install all other software packages.
04:29 Now, let’s view the History.
04:31 This allows us to view all the changes we have made including installations,
04:37 updates and removal of software.
04:40 Click History. The History dialog box appears.
04:45 You can check your history by All Changes, Installations, Updates, and Removals.
04:51 Click All Changes.
04:53 The list of all the changes made, that is, installations, updates and removals are displayed.
