Let us begin with the installation of ASCEND on Ubuntu. |
| Open a web browser and open ascend4.org | First open a web browser; now type the url ascend4.org |
| Click on the download link | Click on the download link in the yellow box. |
| Show the download page
Download .deb Ascend file |
A page opens.
Click on download Ascend with .deb extension on the top of the page. Download starts automatically. |
| Choose save file option in the pop-up window | A dialog box opens.
Click on Save file button and click on Ok. |
| Press CTRL+ALT+T | Let us now open the terminal.
Press CTRL+ALT+T keys simultaneously to open the terminal. |
| Type sudo apt-get install libpopt0 in terminal | Type sudo apt-get install libpopt zero on the prompt. |
| Enter the password | Enter the system password and press Enter. |
| Installation of libpopt is complete | This is a pre-requisite for ASCEND and will get installed easily. |
| Open the Downloads folder | Now go to Downloads folder where ASCEND is downloaded. |
| Right-click on >> click on Open with Ubuntu Software Center | Right click on the downloaded version and click on Open with Ubuntu Software Center. |
| Ubuntu Software Center window >> click on Install button | Once the Ubuntu Software Center window is opened, click on the Install button the right side. |
| Enter password | Provide the system password and press Enter.
The installation takes a few seconds to complete. |
| Click on the ASCEND icon in the launcher | After installation, you will see an ASCEND icon on the launcher.
Click on ASCEND icon to open it. |
| You will see the ASCEND interface. | |
| Click on the Open icon | Click on Open. |
| Load vessel.a4c file by double clicking on vessels in modules section | You will find a models folder in the ASCEND folder.
ASCEND interface opens. Double click on vessels under Modules section. Vessel model opens in Simulation section. |
| Click on Solve icon | Click on Solve icon.
This solves the model. The blue coloured line represents the solution to the problem. ASCEND is now installed on Ubuntu 12.04 |

Pre-requisites |
Let's begin with the installation of ASCEND on Windows 7 |
| Open Firefox web browser on the screen | First open a web browser. |
| Open ascend4.org website | And type the url ascend4.org and press Enter. |
| Click on the download link in the yellow box | Click on the download link in the yellow box.
A new page opens. |
| Download .exe installation file for ascend | Now click on Download Ascend with the .exe extension. |
| Click on save file in the prompt window | Click on Save file.
Dwnload starts automatically. |
| Go to the download folder and double click on the setup file | Now open the folder where Ascend has been saved.
Double-click on setup file. |
| Click on I agree in the prompt window and complete the installation | A box with terms and conditions opens.
Click on I agree,then Next. Browse through the folder where you want to save ASCEND package. I am leaving it as Program Files in C drive. |
| Click on Next. | Now click on Next.
During installation process, the pre-requisites will also be installed along with ASCEND. Agree to all installation processes when prompted. |
| Click on Start button and click on ASCEND icon | Now click on the Start menu.
You will see an icon of ASCEND. Click on ASCEND icon to open it. |
| Ascend interface opens. | You will see an ASCEND interface.
Now click on Open. Under Program files in ASCEND folder, you will find a models folder. |
| Load the vessel.a4c file under modules section | Now browse through the file vessel.a4c and double-click on it.
Now under Modules section, you will find the word vessel. Double-click on it. It will open under Simulation section. |
| Click on the Solve button | Now click on Solve.
The green dots show the answer that ascend has calculated. ASCEND is now installed on Windows 7. |
