(a) the first character of the surname / last name of the person, in the case of a "Personal" PAN card

In the image shown, the surname is Yadav. Therefore, the 5^th character is Y.

(b) the name of the Entity/ Trust/ Society/ Organization in the case of Company/ HUF/ Firm or any other types of PAN Cards.

In the image shown, the name of the trust is Shanoz. Therefore, the 5^th character is S.
