I have already opened the OBS studio interface in my system. Please do so on your system. |
Click on the Settings button
Point towards the Settings dialog box |
At the bottom right, click on the Settings button.
The Settings dialog box pops up. |
Click on the Video tab
Hover over each option as per the narration |
On the left side panel, click on the Video tab.
Under the Video tab on the right side, 4 options are displayed. |
Slide: Video Options | Base (Canvas) Resolution defines the Canvas preview aspect ratio and Canvas size.
Output (Scaled) Resolution defines the main Output resolution. Downscale Filter specifies the filters used in scale operations. This filter changes how OBS shrinks the video. It decides what details are to be kept and which to discard in the video. Common FPS Values specifies sets of frame rates (fps). It is the rate at which OBS Studio will render its output. |
Click on the drop down next to Base (Canvas) Resolution
Select 1920 x 1080 |
Now on the OBS interface, click on the drop-down next to Base (Canvas) Resolution.
Resolution options are displayed. I will select 1920 x 1080. |
Type, 1920 x 1080 |
Next, we will change the value of our Output (Scaled) Resolution.
We want our output to be the same size as the Canvas resolution. So, I will type 1920 x 1080 here. |
Click on the drop down next to Downscale Filter >> select Bilinear
Select 30fps |
Click on the drop-down next to Downscale Filter and select Bilinear.
Under Common FPS Values, I will select 30fps. |
Click on the Apply button >> click on the OK button | Click on the Apply button and then on the OK button at the bottom of the window. |
Controls >> Start Recording button | Under the Controls panel on the right, click on the Start Recording button.
Minimize the screen and record any other window of your choice. |
Open Firefox web browser >> Spoken Tutorial website. | I am recording my Firefox web browser screen.
I will briefly record the Spoken Tutorial website. |
Click on the Stop Recording button |
After recording is done, switch back to the OBS window.
And click on the Stop Recording button. |
Click on File
Click on Show Recordings |
To locate the recording, click on the File menu on the top left of the OBS interface.
Click on Show Recordings. |
Right-click on it >> Open with option
Select VLC player |
To view the recording, first right-click on it and from the context menu, select Open with option.
From the sub-menu, select any Player available on your system. I will select VLC player. |
Only narration | Notice that the video is not very clear even in 1920 x 1080 resolution.
The Downscale Filter has degraded the output quality. This is done in order to render the video quickly. |
Switch to OBS >> click on Settings
|
Go back to theOBS window.
At the bottom right under Controls, click on the Settings button. The Settings dialog box pops up. |
Click on the Video tab
Under Downscale Filter select Lanczos |
On the left panel, click on the Video tab.
Under Downscale Filter, select Lanczos. |
Click on the Apply button >> click on the OK button | Click on the Apply button and then on the OK button at the bottom of the dialog box. |
Controls>>Start Recording button | Under the Controls panel on the right side, click on the Start Recording button. |
Open Firefox web browser >> Spoken Tutorial website. |
Now, go to the same screen as we did earlier.
Here, I have already opened the Spoken tutorial website. |
Click on the Stop Recording button |
After recording is done, switch back to the OBS window.
And click on the Stop Recording button. |
Click on File >> Click on Show Recordings
Right-click on it >> Open with option >> Select VLC |
At the top left, click on the File menu and select Show Recordings.
Play the video as demonstrated earlier. |
Point towards the video | Notice, the quality of the video has changed and the file size has increased. |
Point towards Downscale filter option | Depending on the video quality and file size we can adjust the Downscale filter option.
Downscale filter can be adjusted according to:

Switch to OBS >> click on Settings Point towards settings dialog box |
Go back to theOBS window.
At the bottom right under Controls, click on the Settings button. The Settings dialog box pops up. |
Click on the Audio tab
Select 44.1khz and Stereo Point towards Global Audio Devices by default Desktop Audio |
On the left panel, click on the Audio tab.
Under the General section, let’s use Sample rate of 44.1 kHz and Channels as Stereo. In my case under Global Audio Devices by default Desktop Audio is set to Default. It may vary depending on your system settings. |
Point towards Mic/Auxiliary Audio | Mic/Auxiliary Audio is set to Default and everything else is Disabled. |
Click on the Apply button>> click on the OK button | Click on the OK button. |
Point towards the Restart OBS dialog box
Click on the Yes button |
The Restart OBS dialog box pops up.
Here, click on the Yes button. |
Point towards OBS is already running dialog box
Click on theLaunch anyway button |
If OBS doesn’t restart correctly, the “OBS is already running” dialog box appears.
Here, click on the Launch anyway button. |
We see that the OBS window restarts with our new configuration. | |
Only narration | Next, let's learn to add filters to ourAudio. |
Select Scene 002.
Sources panel select the Arvind’s external mic |
Select Scene 002.
In the Sources panel, select Arvind’s external mic. |
Audio mixer panel, the Device option is set to Default.
Select Microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio) |
Above the Audio mixer panel, the Device option is set to Default.
Click on the drop-down next to Default. Then select Microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio). |
Point towards thenew Audio track |
It may vary depending on your system settings and the headset you are using.
Note: If no Audio is detected, check your system settings and add an audio input. We see a new Audio track gets inserted in the Audio mixer panel. |
Click onStart recording button | Now click on theStart recording button at the bottom right.

Click the gear icon next to the volume button

In the Audio Mixer window, click the gear icon next to the volume button.
From the context menu, select Filters. |
Point towards Audio Input Capture | Filters for ‘Arvind’s external mic’ window appears. |
Left side >> click the + button >> Select the Noise suppression filter | To add a filter, click the + plus button on the left side of the window.
Let us select the Noise suppression filter. |
Point towards Filter name
click on the OK button |
A dialog box saying “Filter Name” appears.
I will keep the name as it is and click on the OK button. |
Right side >> click on Method drop-down >> select RNNoise | On the right side, click on the drop-down next to the Method option.
Here, we will select RNNoise. |
Click on the + button >> Select the Compressor filter | Then again click on the + plus button on the left side and select the Compressor filter. |
Point towards Filter Name
Click on the OK button |
A dialog box saying “Filter Name” appears.

Hover over each option | Here we see different options with adjusting levels.
We will keep them as they are. |
Click on the Close button | And click on the Close button at the bottom of the window. |
Click on Start recording button >> Narrate | Now click on the Start recording button.

Stop recording >> File >>Show recordings
Right-click on it >> Open with option >> Select VLC player |
Then click on the Stop recording button.
And play the recording as demonstrated earlier. |
