Show the input files in File manager and point to the bunny image. | I have saved all the input files in the Videos folder.
Let’s add an image of Big Bucks Bunny to the video. |

He is a character in the Blender movie project Big Bucks Bunny. |
Show opened Blender interface. | I have already opened the Blender interface. |
Click on File, Open. | Click on File, Open to open the input project file. |
From the Videos folder, choose the addimage.blend project file. | From the Videos folder, choose the add-image.blend file. |
Click on Open. Show the tracks in Sequencer panel. | Click on Open to open the project.
Notice a video and an audio track in the Sequencer panel. |
Select bbb.png file and add it above the video strip. | Select bbb.png file from the Videos folder and add it above the video strip. |
Adjust zoom level to convenience. | Adjust the zoom level to convenience. |
Move the image strip to about 10 seconds in the video. | Move the image strip to about 10 seconds in the video. |
Place the playhead on the image strip. | I will also place the playhead at any position on the image strip.
Then the image will be visible in the Preview panel. |
Cursor on Preview panel. | The image is large, and fills the screen. |
Cursor on the Sequencer panel. | The video in the channel below is not visible.
Let’s resize and reposition the image in the canvas. |
Click on Add, Effect strip, Transform. | For this purpose, click on the Add tab.
Then select Effect strip, Transform. A transform strip gets added on the top channel of the image. |
Select the transform strip. | Select the transform strip. |
Cursor on the settings panel. | Go to the settings for the transform strip in the Sidebar. |
Press N twice. | If this panel is not seen for you, press the N key to show the panel. |
Scroll down in the Sidebar to the Position section. | Scroll down. |
Cursor on Position X, Y and Scale X, Y. | X and Y Position of image can be changed and the image can be resized. |
Left click, hold and drag on Position x field, to change x position of the image. | Place the cursor on the Position X field.
Left click, hold and drag or use the arrows to change x position of the image. Notice the image moves laterally in the Preview panel. |
Check the box for Uniform Scale. | Check the box for Uniform Scale.
This scales the image in X and Y proportionately. |
Reduce Scale X and Y values as seen here to resize the image. | Reduce the Scale value as seen here to resize the image.
Still we do not see the video from the channel below. |
Click on the Blend in Strips tab. | In the Strips tab, under Composting, click on the Blend options. |
Choose Alpha over. | Notice the several options listed on the right and the effects on the left.
I will choose Alpha over. |
Show arrow image in preview panel. | Now the image can be seen above the video.
It is large and is seen across the screen. |
Position and resize the image around the square in the video. | Resize and position the image inside the white region of the video.
Learner may adjust the position and size to your desire. |
Resize and reposition the video. Then scroll down the Strip tab. | Pause this video and practice positioning and sizing of the image.
Scroll down. |
Hover mouse over Crop and check the box. | The image can also be cropped with the Crop function.
First check the box for Crop. |
Crop all four sides slightly and show the change. | We can crop from left, right, top or bottom.
Notice the changes in the Preview panel. |
Cursor on the crop, to show the image stretching. | The image gets stretched. This is due to image scaling.
Learner may rescale the cropped image to their convenience. Please pause this video and do the following. |

Select the image strip and,

Scroll down to the Time section. Select the image strip. | Scroll down to the Time section.
Select the image strip.

Cursor on the Start and Duration field. | You may set to the exact frame number, desired for start using the Start field.
Similarly, the desired duration field can be set using the Duration field. |
Use handles and adjust the duration and start. | I will use the handles to set the desired start position and duration.
Notice that, the Transform strip also move with the image. Notice the numbers for start and duration fields change as this is done. |
Next, let’s add an arrow, rotate it and change the opacity. | |
Read arrow,png file. | Load the arrow image, which is saved in the Videos folder for me.

Point to the channels of both images. | The arrow is on the channel above that of Big Bucks Bunny. |
Cursor next to BBB in the Sequencer panel. | I will place the arrow above Big Bucks Bunny image in the time course.
If the image gets added on another channel, please move it as seen here. |
Click on Add, Effect strip, Transform. | Let’s click on Add, Effect strip, Transform.
An effect layer gets added above the channel of the image. |
Cursor in the Preview panel, which show only the image, without the video. | The video in the channel below is not visible. |
Select the image strip. Move it to time around 10 seconds. | Select the image strip and move it to position around time 10 seconds.
Notice that, the transform strip also move with the image. |
Select the transform strip. | Select the transform strip. |
Click on the Blend in Strips tab. | In the Strips tab, under Composting, click on Blend options. |

Rotate arrow. | First, I will rotate the arrow for arrow head to face down. |

This will take time for you to practice. |
Change the X and Y position of the image, to be on the text of the video. | Adjust position X and Y to fit the image in the white background
area. |
Zoom in slightly on the preview panel. | Let’s change the Opacity of the image.
You may zoom in on the Preview panel for closer view. |
Cursor over Opacity option. | Opacity option is seen in the Compositing section in the Strip panel.
Currently it is at value one and let’s decrease it slowly. |
Cursor in the Preview panel. | Notice the image becomes more transparent as the opacity is decreased. |
Change Opacity to zero. | When the value of Opacity is at zero, the image is not seen.
Now it is completely transparent. |
Change Opacity value to 1. | I will change the Opacity to one and the image is seen again. |
Scroll in the Strip tab to the Time section.
Then, hold the handle and change the duration of arrow image. |
Let’s adjust the duration for image time position of the bunny image. |
Cursor on the arrow image strip and the Transform strip in the Sequencer panel. | Pause the video and explore and familiarize with more options. |
Press Ctrl+S.
Then Press Ctrl+Q. |
You may save the project, render to an output file and quit Blender. |
