I have opened the Marble interface. | |
Click on theOpenStreetMapview
Zoom in. Point on our home locationMumbai.
From the context menu selectHide option. Right click on Compass. From the context menu selectHide option. Right click on Scale bar. From the context menu selectHide option.
|
Go to Map View and select OpenStreetMap .
|
Let us hide latitudes and longitudes for better visibility of the map.
Go to the Legend panel and uncheck Coordinate Grid check box.

Let us make theEdit Maps panel visible, if it is not seen on the interface.
|
Point on Edit Maps panel and click on it Point onAdd Placemark, Add polygon, Add path, AddGroundoverlayand others. |
In theEdit Mapspanel we see some icons.
|
Cursor on the interface.

Let us first learn to add a placemark on the map.
We will add a placemark on the location of IIT Bombay. Zoom in and locate IIT Bombay. |
Click on Add Placemarkoption.
Point onEdit Placemarkdialogue box |
Go toEdit Mapspanel and click on Add Placemark icon .
Edit Placemark dialogue box opens on the interface.

In the Name field type the name asIIT Bombay.

Under Label click on the Color button. Point on Select colour window.

In the Description field, type the information given in the code files link.

Click onStyle ,Coloroption.

Click onStyle, Color tab.
Let us select colours forLinesandAreaof the polygon.
Click the OK button.

Point on theWidth dropdown button.

We see a Width dropdown button .
We can select the line width here. I will choose the line width as 1.5.
Select colour window opens. From the color box,I will select magenta forArea. click on the OK button. |
Click onNodes option.

Let us resize and place the dailog box to the left side of the interface.
Now click onNodes tab.

Node is a point on the map.
It specifies the longitude and latitude of a particular place. |

Let us now start marking Nodes to draw a polygon on the area of Kerala. |
Give nodes on the border of Kerala.
|
To mark the area with nodes, click anywhere on the boundary of kerala.
keep clicking all along the boundary to complete the full area of Kerala.

Mark nodes in the full area .
Point on the polygon area in the map Let us complete the full area of kerala.

Click on the OK button.
Point on Kerala on the map. |
Click on the OK button.
After marking the nodes Kerala appears as magenta colour .

Point to the Add path icon.
If we wish to add some lines or path on the map we can use Add path tool.

Locate Pune and Solapur on the map.

Click onAdd path icon.

Click on Add Path icon.
Add path dialog box opens on the interface. In theName field I will type the name as Path-1.

Click on theColorbutton under Lines.
From theColorwindow select blue colour.
From the Color window I will select blue colour.

Next we will select' Color'andWidthfor our path .
Click on the color button under Lines.
I will choose the color width as 1.5.
|
Click on theNodestab in the dialog box
move this window to a convenient location. Start marking the nodes one by one.

Click on theNodes tab in the dialog box.
|
Click on the OK button in the Add path dialog box.
|
After completing the path click on theOKbutton in theAdd Path dialog box.
|
Click on theSave Annotation FIleicon. |
Let us save all the annotations we have made on this map.
|
Point to Save Annotation FIle dialog box .
|
Save Annotation FIle dialog box opens on the interface.
I will select Desktopfolder.
|
In the File name field type the name asAnnotation-1.kml.
Cursor onFiles of Type dropdown.
|
In theFile namefield type the name asAnnotation-1.kml.
Please note that file format should be.kmlor .osm.
|
Go to theDesktop folder.
Point to Annotation-1.kml on theDesktop.
|
Let us check our annotation file.
Go to theDesktop folder.
|
Right-click on the file.
Select the optionOpen with KDE Marble. Point to all the annotations. |
To open the file, right-click on the file.
Notice that all annotations made on the map have been saved in this file.
