00:01 Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on How to use OPAC.
00:06 In this tutorial, we will learn: how to find an item using Search
00:13 and find an item using Advance Search.
00:18 To record this tutorial, I am using Ubuntu Linux OS 16.04 and

Koha version 16.05

00:32 To follow this tutorial, you should have knowledge of Library Science.
00:38 To practice this tutorial, You should have Koha installed on your system.
00:44 And, You should also have admin access in Koha.
00:49 If not, please refer to the Koha Spoken Tutorial series on this website.
00:56 To begin with, I have added 2 more books on Microbiology.
01:02 One with author as Powar and Daginawala and another with author as Heritage.
01:12 This makes it a total of 3 books in my library.
01:17 Before going ahead, please add 2 more books of your choice into your library as has been explained in an earlier tutorial.
01:27 Open your Web Browser and type: 127.0.1.1/8000
01:39 This URL is based on- the port number and domain name given at the time of installation.
01:47 Please type as per what you had mentioned.

Now, press Enter.

01:54 The homepage Welcome to Spoken Tutorial Library opens.
02:00 On the top left side from the Library catalog, drop down, we can search by the following options:
02:09 Title, Author , Subject, ISBN , Series and Call number.
02:22 And in the right side field I will type Microbiology here and click on Go at the right side of the field.
02:33 All the Library items having the word Microbiology, are listed in the results.
02:40 The listed items with the search word, can be further sorted as per the user’s choice.
02:47 To do so, go to the right side of the list and click on the tab Relevance.
02:54 From the drop-down, I will select Author (A-Z).
03:00 You may choose any other relevant option as per your requirement.
03:06 Upon selecting Author (A-Z), a list of Authors is displayed in alphabetic order.
03:14 Look below the title of the listed items. Here, we can see the availability of that particular item across all the libraries.
03:26 So, how can we improve our search for even better results?
03:31 We can do so by clicking on the ‘Refine Your Search' tab on the extreme left.
03:39 Then go to the various tabs under sections like: Availability, Authors, Item Types and Topics.
03:52 Now, let us see what to do in case the required material is not found with a general search.
04:01 On the Search Catalog page, click on the link Advanced Search.
04:07 A new page with the title Search for opens up.
04:13 Using the multiple drop-down options, we can refine our search for our required material.
04:21 From the first drop-down on the left side, select the appropriate option such as:

Keyword, Subject , Title , Author , Publisher, Publisher Location, ISBN and Barcode.

04:40 I will select Subject. And in the right side field, type the details of the option selected from the left side drop-down.
04:51 I will type Microbiology here.
04:55 Using the second drop-down option, I will select Author as Patel.
05:03 Using the third drop-down option, I will select Publisher as Pearson.
05:11 On the same page, notice the other options under the section Item Type-
05:18 Book, Reference and Serial
05:23 followed by options such as- Publication date range, Language and Sorting.
05:34 So, under the section Item Type, I will click on the radio button for Books.
05:41 I will leave the Publication date range as blank.
05:46 For the Language, select English from the drop-down.
05:52 Under the section Sorting, for Sort by: I will select Author (A-Z).
06:00 After filling all the details, click on Search at the bottom of the page.
06:07 This page will have a list of all items having the following:

Subject as Microbiology,

06:16 Author as Patel Arvind H.,
06:20 Publisher as Pearson.
06:23 Now, let’s go back to the Advanced Search page and click on More Options button at the bottom of the section Search for:.
06:36 On doing so, the layout of the Advanced search page changes.
06:42 Once again, in the first drop-down, I will select Subject.
06:48 Then I will type Microbiology.
06:52 Now come to the second row of options.
06:56 In the first drop-down, I will keep the option “and” as it is.
07:03 And, in the drop-down to the right, I will select “Author”.
07:08 Then to the right of this, I will type “Patel”.
07:13 Next, come to the third row of options.

In the first drop-down, I will select the option “or”.

07:22 And, in the drop-down to the right, I will select “Author”.
07:28 Then to the right of this, I will type“Heritage”.
07:33 If required, you can further expand the search using the search options under the section Item type or the rest of the options.
07:45 After filling in all the details, click on the Search button at the bottom of the section.
07:52 This is how we can search for items in the library using OPAC.
07:58 With this tutorial, you have now learnt how a user can easily search for a library item.

using keyword as Biology, search for the list of Journals in OPAC.
