00:01 | Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on “Animate a toy train” using Synfig. |
00:06 | In this tutorial, we will learn to animate the toy train which we created earlier. |
00:12 | For this tutorial, I am using:
Ubuntu Linux 14.04 OS, Synfig version 1.0.2 |
00:21 | Let’s open our Train Synfig file. |
00:25 | Please open your Train Synfig file which you saved on your system. |
00:29 | Let us start with the animation. |
00:31 | Click on the drop down list of Engine group layer. |
00:36 | Right-click on any of the Wheel group layer. |
00:39 | Select the Star layer. |
00:41 | Again right-click and click on New layer. |
00:45 | Then click on Transform and on Rotate. |
00:50 | Now the Rotate effect has been applied to the wheel. |
00:54 | Move the anchor point to the centre of the wheel. |
00:58 | In the Animation panel, click on Turn on animate editing mode icon. |
01:05 | Type 24 in the Current frame box. |
01:09 | Go to the Parameters panel. |
01:11 | Double-click on the value of Amount parameter and change the value to 360. |
01:18 | Observe that waypoints are created on the Time track panel. |
01:23 | Click and drag the Time cursor between the 2 waypoints and check the rotation of the wheel. |
01:29 | Save the file by pressing Ctrl + S. |
01:33 | Let us now create a time loop for this rotation effect. |
01:37 | Right-click on Rotate effect layer and click on New layer. |
01:42 | Then click on Other and on Time Loop. |
01:48 | In the Parameters panel, tick the checkbox of Only For Positive Duration. |
01:55 | Next, let us add the Rotate & Time Loop effects to all the wheels. |
02:00 | So, select both the effect layers using the Shift key. |
02:05 | And press Ctrl and C keys to copy the layers. |
02:09 | Now, click on the dropdown list of Wheel-1 group layer. |
02:13 | Press Ctrl and V keys to paste the layers. |
02:17 | Repeat the same process for all the wheels. |
02:24 | Now the rotation effect has been applied to all the wheels of the toy train. |
02:29 | Save the file once again by pressing Ctrl + S. |
02:34 | Let us now animate the train. |
02:37 | Select all the group layers except Rail. |
02:41 | Group them together and rename the group layer as Train. |
02:47 | Make sure that the Time cursor is in the zeroth frame. |
02:52 | Using Shift key, drag the train outside the canvas to the right. |
02:57 | Move the Time cursor to the 100th frame. |
03:01 | Using Shift key, drag the train to the left side outside the canvas. |
03:07 | Click on Turn off animate editing mode icon. |
03:11 | Save the file by pressing Ctrl + S. |
03:15 | Let us now render the animation. |
03:18 | For this, go to File and click on Render. |
03:22 | In the File name field, change the extension to avi and change the Target to ffmpeg. |
03:31 | Increase the quality to 9 and click on the Render button. |
03:36 | Now go to Desktop. Right click on the avi file and play using Firefox web browser. |
03:43 | We can now see the Toy train animation. |
03:47 | With this, we have come to the end of this tutorial. |
03:50 | Let us summarize. In this tutorial, we learnt to animate a Toy train. |
03:56 | Here is an assignment for you-animate the bus created in an earlier assignment by following the steps shown in this tutorial. |
