00:01 Hello everyone. Welcome to this tutorial on Charts in GChemTable.
00:07 In this tutorial, we will learn about-
00:09 Elemental Charts and
00:11 How to create Custom Charts
00:15 For this tutorial, I am using:
00:18 Ubuntu Linux OS version 12.04
00:21 GChemPaint version 0.12.10
00:25 GChemTable version 0.12.10.
00:31 To follow this tutorial, you should be familiar with-
00:35 Periodic table of the elements and
00:37 GChemPaint
00:40 For relevant tutorials on GChemPaint, please visit our website.
00:44 Let's open a new GChemTable window.
00:49 Click on Dash Home.
00:51 In the search bar that appears, type “gchemtable”.
00:55 Click on Periodic table of the elements icon.
01:00 Click on View menu, select Elements Charts.
01:05 A sub-menu opens, displaying a list of options.
01:10 Click on Electro-negativity.
01:13 A chart of Pauling Electro-negativity versus Atomic number(Z) is displayed.
01:18 In the chart, highest Electro-negativity value is '4'.
01:23 I will close the Electro-negativity chart.
01:26 Likewise, different charts are available under View menu,
01:29 Element charts.
01:32 I will select Melting Temperature chart.
01:35 A chart of Melting point versus Atomic number(Z) is displayed.
01:41 In this chart, Carbon has highest melting point.
01:46 I will close Melting point chart.
01:50 Now, let's learn how to create a "Custom" chart.
01:54 Go to View, select Element Charts and click on Custom.
02:01 Customize Chart window and GChemTable Graph window appear on the screen.
02:07 Customize Chart window has Graph hierarchy tree on the left and
02:11 Graph preview on the right.
02:13 Graph hierarchy tree displays the current graph components and their hierarchy.
02:20 Hierarchy can be modified using the buttons given in the panel.
02:25 Graph preview displays,a scaled version of the modifications in the graph.
02:31 In the Graph hierarchy tree, you can see Graph and Chart1.
02:36 By default, Graph is selected.
02:39 Now let's move to the panel below.
02:42 Here, there are two tabs: Style and Theme.
02:46 By default, Style tab is selected.
02:51 Here we have two headings: Outline and Fill.
02:55 Outline heading has 3 drop downs, namely,
02:59 Style, Color and Size.
03:04 These drop downs help to change the outline properties of the Graph.
03:09 Click on Style drop down and select any of the line styles shown.
03:15 For eg- I will select Long dash.
03:20 Click on Color drop down arrow to view all the available colours.
03:25 I will select green colour.
03:28 Click on "Size" scroller arrow and increase the size to “3.0” pts.
03:34 All changes can be seen in the Graph preview area.
03:38 Next, let's look at Fill.
03:41 Under Fill, we can see Type drop-down button.
03:45 Click on Type drop-down button and select Pattern.
03:50 Attributes of Pattern appear below.
03:52 These include Pattern, Foreground and Background.
03:58 Each attribute has a drop down that shows options to select from.
04:03 Click on Pattern drop-down,
04:05 to select a pattern of your choice.
04:08 Click on Foreground drop-down to select 'orange' color.
04:13 Click on Background drop-down to select black' color.
04:18 Observe all the changes in the Graph preview area.
04:22 You can explore the Theme tab options on your own.
04:27 Now let us select Chart1 in Graph hierarchy tree.
04:31 Click on Add button.
04:34 Select Title to Chart1 from the options list.
04:39 A new set of tabs open below.
04:42 By default, Data tab is selected.
04:46 In the Text field, type the title of the Chart.
04:49 I will type Atomic mass – Fusion Temperature.
04:55 Click on Font tab.
04:58 Here you can change the Font type, Font style, font Size and font Color.
05:05 I will increase font size to 14 and change the font color to 'maroon'.

05:15 Here you can change Orientation of the text.
05:19 This can be done in 2 ways-
05:21 1. One by clicking directly in the preview area.
05:24 2. Two by changing the Angle field using the scroller.
05:31 Click on Position tab.
05:34 I will leave the default values as they are.
05:38 In the Graph hierarchy tree let's go back and
05:41 click on Chart1
05:43 In the panel below, three tabs,
05:46 Style, Position and Plot area are seen.
05:50 By default Style tab is selected.

07:48 Select Fill color as 'brown' and
07:51 leave the others as default.
07:54 Now let us click on Apply button.
07:57 The required chart is displayed on
08:00 GChemTable Graph window.
08:03 Let us now save this chart as an image.
08:06 First click on GChemTable Graph window.
08:10 Select File and click on Save As Image option.
08:14 Save As Image dialog box opens.
08:18 Select the File type as PS document.
