00:01 Hello everyone. Welcome to the tutorial on Basic Operations in GChemPaint.
00:07 In this tutorial, we will learn to-

00:14 Add and Edit text
00:17 Select, Move, Flip and Rotate objects

00:25 Cut, copy, paste and delete objects.
00:30 Here I am using,
00:32 Ubuntu Linux OS version 12.04,
00:36 GChemPaint version 0.12.10.
00:42 To follow this tutorial, you should be familiar with,
00:48 GChemPaint chemical structure editor.
00:52 If not, for relevant tutorials, please visit our website.
00:58 To open a new GChemPaint application,
01:01 Click on Dash home.
01:04 In the Search bar that appears, type GChemPaint.
01:08 Click on the GChemPaint icon.
01:12 Let's begin the tutorial by opening an existing file.
01:16 Click on File menu,
01:20 select Open and click on it.
01:24 A window containing files and folders opens.
01:29 From here, Select file named “propane”.
01:32 Click on Open, to open the file.
01:36 Let's add some text below propane structure.
01:42 Select “Add or modify a text”tool from toolbox.
01:47 Text tool Property page opens.
01:50 The Property page contains fields like - Family, Style, Size, Underline, and a few others.
02:02 Family has a list of font names.
02:06 Let's scroll down the list.
02:11 I will select Arial Black from the Family.
02:15 Click on the Display area below Propane structure.
02:20 You can see a blinking cursor enclosed in a green box.
02:25 Let's type the name of the compound as “Propane”.
02:32 Let's now change the Style to Bold Italic.
02:35 Select the text “Propane” click on Bold Italic.
02:42 I will increase the font size to 16.
02:46 Let's scroll down to 16
02:48 and click on it.
02:50 Observe the changes in the text.
02:53 Next, let's use Underline feature.
02:57 It has a drop down list with options-

03:02 Double, and Low.
03:05 Let's select Single.
03:09 Let's change the color of the text.
03:12 Default color of the text is “black”.
03:16 Click on the drop down arrow of the color field.

03:28 We can also change the position of the text.
03:32 Position field has range from -100 to 100.
03:37 Let's see how the text changes.
03:40 Select the text.
03:44 Click on the up-arrow triangle with the mouse.
03:48 Text moves upwards.
03:50 Likewise if we click on down arrow triangle, text moves downwards.
03:59 Let's bring the text to normal position.
04:02 Type "0" in the position field,
04:05 and click on display area.
04:09 Here is an assignment for you.
04:12 Open the assignment of the first tutorial.
04:15 Label the structures as n-hexane and n-octane.
04:19 Change font name, font size, underline and colour the text.
04:26 Your completed assignment should look like this.
04:31 Now let's learn to select and move objects.
04:35 From the “Tool box” click on the tool “Select one or more objects”.
04:42 Click on “pentane”.
04:44 Without releasing the mouse button, drag it to a different position.
04:49 Now, release the mouse.
04:52 Next let's rotate an object.
04:55 To rotate the object, click on “Select one or more objects” tool.
05:01 The properties page has tools,
05:05 Flip the selection horizontally,
05:08 Flip the selection vertically,
05:10 Rotate the selection.
05:13 To use these tools,Click on Pentane.
05:17 Select Rotate the selection option.
05:22 Go to the Display area and place the mouse over the object.
05:28 Move the mouse in the clock-wise and anti-clock-wise direction.
05:34 Observe the rotation of the object.
05:39 Now, let's learn to flip the object.
05:42 Let's flip Pentane structure horizontally.
05:47 Click on Flip the selection horizontally tool to flip the structure horizontally.
05:55 Pause the tutorial here and Flip the selection vertically on your own.
06:03 Let's now group and align objects.
06:06 To group objects, select all objects.
06:09 For this, go to Edit menu, click on Select All.
06:15 or you can press Ctrl and A keys simultaneously.
06:20 Right-click on any one of the objects.
06:24 The context menu opens.
06:26 Select Group and/or align objects option.
06:31 A dialog box pops up.
06:33 Click on Group check-box.
06:36 Uncheck Align and Space evenly options, if they are selected.
06:42 Click on OK button.
06:45 We see that the objects are grouped together.
06:51 Let us now align the objects.
06:54 Press Ctrl+ A to select all objects.
06:58 Right-click on any one of the objects.
07:01 The context menu opens.
07:04 Select Group properties option.
07:09 Click on Align check-box.
07:12 Align options has a drop-down list.
07:17 It has some options to align objects.
07:22 I will select “Left”
07:25 click on OK button.
07:29 Observe the changes.
07:32 Pause the tutorial here and align objects with other align options on your own.
07:41 Let's now learn to use cut, copy and paste options.
07:47 Go to Edit menu.
07:49 It contains basic Edit options like Cut, Copy, Paste and Clear.
07:57 The common short-cut keys for these options -
08:00 Ctrl+ X to Cut
08:02 Ctrl+ C to Copy
08:05 Ctrl+ V to paste, will work in GChemPaint as well.
08:10 Select one or more objects using “Select one or more objects” tool.
08:16 Click on the object.
08:18 Let's press Ctrl+ X to cut .
08:22 Press Ctrl+ V to paste the object at a different position on the Display area.
08:29 Observe that when we cut the object, it is deleted from its original place.
08:35 Next, let's copy and paste the object at a different place on the display area.
08:42 Click on the object, press Ctrl+ C to copy and press Ctrl+ V to paste.
08:50 Observe that when we copy the object, it is not deleted from its original place.
08:58 To clear the Display area, select all objects,
09:02 press Ctrl+ A to select all objects.
09:06 Go to Edit menu,
09:08 click on Clear.
09:11 To get back our original structures go to Edit menu,
09:16 click on Undo
09:19 Or press Ctrl+Z.
09:23 To delete an object using Delete Key on the Keyboard, Select the object.
09:29 Press Delete key from Keyboard
09:33 Let's now learn to use the Eraser tool to delete part of the structure.
09:39 Select Eraser tool from toolbox.
09:43 Place the mouse near any one of the structures.
09:48 Part of the structure turns red in color.
09:53 Click on the red colored part of the structure to delete it.
09:59 Let's now Undo the changes to get our original structures.
10:08 Let's now save the file.
10:11 Click on Save the current file button on toolbar.
