About Launcher | Let's begin with the Launcher. |

Launcher is the default left-side panel in the Ubuntu Linux desktop, which has some default applications.

Let us learn to customize the Launcher based on our requirements. | |
Slide Number | For my regular work, I need applications like Terminal, LibreOffice Writer, Gedit and so on.

Removing Icons from the Launcher | Before doing that, I will remove some of the applications which I don't want. |
Point to Amazon application
Amazon >> Right-click >> Unlock from Launcher |
Say, I wish to remove the VLC application.
|
Point to the Launcher | You can see that the VLC application icon has been removed from the Launcher. |

Now, I will add the Terminal shortcut to the Launcher. | |
Click on Dash Home | Click on Dash Home. |
Type Terminal in search bar >> click on it. | In the search bar, type “terminal”.

Right click on terminal icon >> Lock to Launcher. | To fix the Terminal icon on the Launcher, first right-click on it.

Another way to fix application shortcuts on the Launcher is by dragging and dropping.

Open Dash Home >> In the search bar type LibreOffice. | Open Dash Home and in the search bar, type libreOffice. |
Drag & Drop LibreOffice icon on the Launcher.

Drag the LibreOffice icon onto the Launcher.
|
Drop LibreOffice icon on the Launcher | Now, drop the LibreOffice icon on the Launcher.

This is how we can add shortcuts on the Launcher. | |
About Multiple Desktop/Workspace switcher (Slide) | The next important feature in Ubuntu Linux OS is multiple desktop or Workspace Switcher. |
About Multiple Desktop/Workspace switcher (Slide) | Sometimes we may be working on multiple applications.

Back to the desktop. | Let’s come back to the Launcher. |
Click on the Launcher >> locate Workspace Switcher. | On the Launcher,locate Workspace Switcher icon and click on it. |
Point to the 4 quadrants. | It shows 4 quadrants with 4 Desktops. |
Point to the top-left quadrant. | By default, the top-left Desktop is selected.
|
Click on Workspace Switcher >> select 2nd Desktop | Now, let’s select the second Desktop by clicking on it. |
Open the Terminal | I will open the Terminal here by clicking on the icon in the Launcher. |
Click on Workspace Switcher | Now, click on the Workspace Switcher again. |
Point to 1st & 2nd Desktop | You can see

Double-click on the first desktop | Let us come back to the first Desktop. |
Point to Trash icon on Launcher. | Trash is another important icon on the Launcher. |

About Trash |
Trash contains all the deleted files and folders.

Back to desktop >> Right click on file>> select Move to Trash option | To demonstrate this, I will delete DIW file, which is on my Desktop.

Click on Trash icon
|
To restore it, just click on the Trash icon in the Launcher.
|
Select the file >> click on Restore option | Select the file, right-click on it and click on Restore. |
Close it.

Close the Trash folder window and come back to the desktop.

Select the file >> Press Shift+Delete. | To delete a file permanently from your system, first select it and then press Shift+Delete. |
A dialog box saying Are you sure want to permanently delete DIW will appear.
Click on Delete. | |
Click on Trash icon | Click on the Trash icon once again. |
In the Trash folder | We can't find the file in the Trash folder, as it is permanently deleted from our system.
|
Point towards the top right corner | Now, we'll see some applications available at the top right corner of the Desktop. |
Internet Connectivity icon | First one is Internet connectivity.
|
Pointing to the available networks | You can select the network which you have access to. |
Point to Enable Networking | To Enable/ Disable the network, check/uncheck the Enable Networking option. |
Point to Edit Connections... | We can also edit the networks using Edit Connections option. |
Point to Sound icon | Next option is Sound.
|
Point to the slider | You can see a slider here. |
Now, drag the slider to the left and then to right. | This helps us to increase or decrease the audio level, as per our choice. |
Click on Sound Settings. | We can further adjust the sound level of our system by clicking on Sound Settings.
|
Time & Date icon | Next icon is Time & Date.
If we click on this icon, the calendar opens up.
|
Point and click on the left and right arrow buttons on Month and Year | Arrow buttons allow us to move to other months and years, as per our choice. |
Clicking on Time & Date settings | We can edit date and time by clicking on Time & Date Settings.

Clicking on Wheel icon
|
Next, click on the wheel icon.
|
Point to user account
|
We can also see all the User accounts available in our system.
