| Point to display resolution | I will be recording this tutorial in maximum resolution mode. This is to accommodate all the tools that will be demonstrated. |
| Go to Dash home. Type Inkscape.
Click on the logo |
Let us open Inkscape. |
| Click on Text tool | Earlier in the series, we learnt to create and format text using the Text tool.
|
| Point to respective icons on the Tool controls bar | Horizontal kerning, Vertical shift and Character rotation are called manual kerns. |
| Type “Spoken” | Type the word “Spoken”.
|
| Point to Horizontal kerning | Horizontal kerning adds space after the selected letter. |
| Click on up and down arrow of Horizontal kerning icon | Click on the up and down arrows to increase or decrease the space between the letters “S” and “p”. |
| Point to the space | Notice that the space is introduced only between the letters “S” and “p”. |
| Horizontal kerning as 3 | Let me keep the Horizontal kerning parameter as 3.

| Point to Vertical shift icon in the Tool controls bar>>
|
The next icon, i.e. Vertical shift, shifts the letters after the selected letter, up or down.
|
| Change Vertical shift parameter to 15 | Observe the letters after the cursor have shifted up and down.
|
| Point to Character rotation icon | Next, we will rotate our characters using Character rotation.
|
| Place the cursor next to character “e”.
Click on up and down arrows |
So, place the cursor before the letter “e”.
|
| Select letters “p” and “o” | To apply the kerns to more than one character, select the characters first then give the values. |
| Change the respective parameters | Let me select the letters “p” and “o” and give
Observe the changes.
|
| Go to Text menu >> Click on Remove manual | To remove the kerns, go to Text menu.
|
| Slide | Manual Kerns can be used only in Regular text.
|
| Create a text box >> Point to Manual kerns >> Press Ctrl + Z | To check, create a text box.
|
| Point to Check Spelling in Text menu | Next we will learn about Spell check feature. |
| Open LO Writer >> Press Ctrl + A >> Press Ctrl + A | To explain the Spell check feature, I will copy text from LibreOffice writer that I had saved already.
|
| Click on the canvas and press Ctrl + V | Now come back to Inkscape.
|
| Go to Text and Check Spelling | Go to Text menu and click on Check Spelling option.
|
| Point to the word “http” | All text is checked, regardless of whether it is selected or not.
|
| Point to the Check spelling dialog box | A list of suggestions appears for the word “http”.
To do so, click on Add to Dictionary button.
|
| Point to the word “tutorial” | Next, the word “tutorial” is highlighted. |
| Click on “tutorial” and Accept button | Since the spelling is wrong, select the correct word from the suggestion list, which is “tutorial”.
|
| Point to Ignore button
|
If you click on Ignore, all other similarly spelled words in the document will get ignored.
|
| Click on Stop button | If you want to stop the spell-checking process, click on Stop. |
| Click on Start button | We can restart the process by clicking the Start button. |
| Point to Spell check dialog box | Spell checking will begin with the text at the top-right and work down the canvas.
|
| Point to Superscript and Subscript icons | Next, we will learn to write Superscript and Subscript. |
| Type “(a+b)2 = a2+b2+2ab” | Type the mathematical formula (a+b)2 = a2+b2+2ab. |
| We have to change the number 2 as square in three places. | |
| Point to Superscript in Tool controls bar | Select the first 2. Go to Tool controls bar. Click on Toggle Superscript icon.

| Type “H2SO4” | Next, we will write a chemical formula using subscript.
|
| Point to Subscript in Tool controls bar | Here 2 and 4 should be written as subscripts.
|
