00:05 In this tutorial we will learn to,
00:08 Add ground overlay
00:10 Select an item

Add a polygon hole

00:13 Remove an item and
00:16 Clear all annotations.
00:19 To record this tutorial, I am using,
00:22 Ubuntu Linux OS, version 16.04
00:26 Marble version 1.12.20 and
00:31 A working Internet connection.
00:34 The process demonstrated in this tutorial is identical in
00:39 Ubuntu Linux OS, version 18.04
00:44 Marble version 2.2.20
00:49 To practice this tutorial, learner should be familiar with Marble interface.
00:55 For the prerequisite Marble tutorials, please visit this site.
01:00 The files used in this tutorial are given in the Code files link.
01:05 Please download and extract the files to Desktop.
01:09 I have downloaded and saved the files to my Desktop folder.
01:14 I have opened the Marble interface.
01:18 We have already learnt about some icons in the Edit Maps panel.
01:23 I have added a Placemark, a Polygon and a Path on the map.
01:28 First we will learn to add Ground Overlay to our map.
01:32 A ground overlay is an image that can be added on to a map.
01:37 I will add an image of an Indian flag on location of India on the map.
01:43 Click on the Ground Overlay icon in the Edit Maps panel.
01:48 Edit ground overlay dialog box opens.
01:52 Click on the Browse button at the top left corner of the dialog box.
01:57 Open File Marble Virtual Globe dialog box opens
02:02 I have saved my file in the Desktop folder.

Double click on the Desktop folder.

02:09 From the folder select the desired image.
02:13 Here you can see the image India hyphen Flag dot png
02:18 Select the image by clicking on it.
02:21 The same name appears in the File name field.
02:25 Note that the image file should be in the .png file format.
02:30 Click on the Open button in the box.
02:33 Image is seen on the Browse button.
02:36 In the Name field type the name as India hyphen flag.
02:41 Click on OK button in the Edit ground overlay dialog box.
02:46 Image appears on the map.
02:49 Resize the image using the arrow handles.
02:54 You can also drag and drop the image as per your choice.
02:59 Next icon is Select item.
03:03 Select Item option can be used to select an item on the map.
03:08 I will zoom in and select the polygon area Kerala.
03:12 All the nodes appear on the polygon area.
03:16 This indicates that the polygon area is in selected mode.
03:21 Right click on the polygon area.
03:24 A context menu opens.
03:27 Click on Properties option.
03:30 Add Polygon dialog box opens.
03:34 We will change the colour of our polygon area.
03:38 Click on the colour box under Area.
03:41 Select Color window opens.
03:44 I will select brown colour.
03:47 Click on the OK button in the window.
03:50 Click on the OK button at the bottom right corner of Add Polygon dialog box.
03:57 Notice that the color of the polygon area has changed from magenta to brown.
04:04 We can copy and paste this polygon area anywhere on the interface.
04:09 Left click on the polygon area.
04:12 Polygon area is in selected mode.
04:16 Right click on the polygon.
04:19 Select Copy option from the context menu.
04:23 I will paste this polygon outside the map.
04:27 Let us now delete this polygon.
04:30 Right click on the polygon area.
04:33 Select Remove option from the context menu.
04:37 A message Are you sure you want to remove the current item? appears.
04:43 Click on the Yes button.
04:46 The polygon is removed from the map.
04:49 We can place this polygon anywhere on the map using the drag and drop method.
04:56 Now we will move this polygon outside of the map.
05:00 Let us move back the polygon to its previous location.
05:04 Similarly we can change the properties of any item that is added on the map.
05:10 Next item is Add Polygon Hole.
05:14 To highlight an area on the polygon, we can use Add Polygon Hole icon.
05:20 Holes can be made in the existing polygon to highlight a particular region.
05:26 Go to the polygon area Kerala and zoom in.
05:30 Here I will add a polygon hole in the region of Malapuram.
05:36 Click on the Add Polygon Hole icon.
05:40 Start marking nodes on the region of Malapuram.
05:45 Observe that Malapuram area is marked with a polygon hole.
05:50 Next icon is Add nodes.
05:53 We can add more nodes using the Add nodes icon.
05:58 I will now extend the Pune to Satara path.
06:02 Click on Add nodes icon.
06:06 Select the path from Pune to Satara named as Path-1.
06:12 Place the cursor on the ending node and drag it to the desired location.
06:18 I will extend the path to Kolhapur.
06:22 Next we will learn to remove items on the map.
06:26 To remove any item from the map, we can use Remove item icon.
06:32 Now I will remove Path-1 from the map.
06:36 Go to Path 1 and click on it.
06:39 Click on Remove item icon in the panel.
06:43 A message Are you sure you want to remove the current item? appears.
06:48 Click on the Yes button.
06:51 Path 1 has been removed from the map.
06:55 Click on Clear all annotations icon.
06:59 A message Are you sure you want to clear all annotations? appears.
07:04 This option is used to remove all the items created on the map.
07:09 Since I don't want to remove the items on the map, I will click on Cancel button.
07:16 Click on View menu.
07:19 Notice that all the icons in Edit maps panel are also available in the View menu.
07:26 Let us summarize.

Add ground overlay, Select an item, Add a polygon hole, Remove an item, Clear all annotations

07:44 Locate Australia on the map and add its flag as Ground Overlay.
