Welcome to the spoken tutorial on Installation of Marble.

In this tutorial we will learn to install Marble on,
  • Ubuntu Linux OS v 16.04 and
  • Windows 10 OS

System requirements


For the installation, I am using,
  • Marble version 1.12.20 in Ubuntu Linux OS version 16.04
  • Marble version 2.20 in Windows 10 OS
  • Firefox web browser and
  • A working Internet connection.

The process demonstrated in this tutorial is identical in,
  • Ubuntu Linux version 18.04
  • Marble version 2.2.20
Now I will show how to download Marble on Ubuntu Linux 16.04 OS.

Marble on Ubuntu 16.04

Marble version 1.12.20 is the stable version, while recording this tutorial.

To practise these tutorials, you can download Marble version 1.12.20.

Open the terminal by pressing Ctrl, Alt and T keys simultaneously. Let us open the terminal by pressing Ctrl, Alt and T keys simultaneously.
Type the command sudo apt-get install marble In the terminal window, type the following command.

sudo apt-get install marble

Press Enter key on the keyboard.

Point to the message. Type the password and pressEnter.


Point to the message Do you want to continue(Y/N)

Type Y to continue.

A message appears which prompts you to enter your system password.

Type the password and press Enter.


A message, Do you want to continue(Y/N) appears.

Type Y to continue.

Point to the terminal. Installation takes a few seconds depending on your internet connectivity.

The installation process is now completed.

Go Dash home. Now we will open the Marble application.

Click on Dash Home.

In the Search bar,type Marble.

Marble icon is seen.

In the Search bar, type Marble.

Double-click on the icon to open the Marble.

Point to KDE Wallet Service dialog box.

Click on the Cancel button at the bottom of the dialog box.

Double-click on this icon to open the Marble application.

KDE Wallet Service dialog box opens.

Click on Cancel button at the bottom of the dialog box.

Point to Marble interface. This is the interface of Marble Virtual Globe.
Point to the left panel and a 3D model of the earth.

Zoom in and show India on the Globe.

Interface has two sections, left panel and a 3D model of the Earth.

I will zoom in and show India on the Globe.

Marble installation on Windows 10 .

Let us now install Marble on Windows 10 OS.

Marble version 2.2.20 is the default version in Windows 10.

Open the Firefox web browser. Open your default web browser.

I am using Firefox web browser.

Address bar >> type Marble.kde.org >> press Enter. In the address bar type Marble.kde.org and press Enter.
KDE Marble home page.

Click on the Install button.

KDE Marble homepage opens.


Click on the Install button in the page.

Point to Marble - Install page.

Scroll down and go to Windows Desktop section.

Scroll down the page and go to Windows Desktop section.

Point to Marble installer files.

Point to 64 bit / 32 bit installer

Here we can see the Marble installer buttons for Windows.


Click on 32 bit / 64 bit installer button as per your system’s configuration.

Point to 64 bit installer button.


Point to the dialog box.

I will choose 64 bit installer.

Double-click on this button.


A dialog box opens, which prompts you to save the file.

Click on the Save File button to download the file. Click on the Save File button to download the file.

Downloading may take a few seconds depending on your internet connectivity.

Point to the downloading arrow in the page. You can see that Marble Windows installer file is downloading.
Go to the Downloads folder.

Show Marble – setup2.2.0_X64.exe file in the Downloads folder.

Now let us go to the Downloads folder.


Marble – setup.exe file has downloaded to the Downloads folder.

Double click on the file.


Point to User Account Control dialog box.


Click on Yes.

Double click to open this file.


User Account Control dialog box opens.

Click on Yes in the box.

Point to Setup -Marble window opens.

Click on I accept the agreement radio button.

Click on Next.

License agreement window opens.

Click on I accept the agreement radio button.


Click on Next button in the License agreement window.

Point to Select Destination Location page in the Set up Marble window.

I will choose the default location.

Select Destination Location window to install Marble opens.

I will choose the default location and click on Next button in the window.

Again click on the Next button. Select Additional Tasks window opens.


Check Create a desktop shortcut checkbox.

Again click on the Next button at the bottom of the window.

Ready to install window opens.

Click on Install button.

Ready to install window opens.


In the window, click on the Install button.

Point to Completing the Marble Setup Wizard window.

Click on the Finish button.

Installation may take a few seconds.


Completing the Marble Setup Wizard window opens.

Click on the Finish button.

Marble interface. The Marble interface opens on the screen.
Go to the Map view panel and scroll down.

Show different map views.

Let us go to the Map view panel and scroll down.

Different map views are available in the Map View panel.
