Rows, Columns, Sheets

00:13 Rename Sheets and
00:15 Move Sheets
00:18 This tutorial is recorded using

Ubuntu Linux OS version 18.04 and LibreOffice Suite version 6.3.5

00:32 Let us open our Personal-Finance-Tracker.ods file.
00:37 This file has been provided to you in the Code files link on this tutorial page.

Please download and extract the file.

00:48 Make a copy and then use it for practising.
00:52 Columns and rows can be inserted individually or in bulk.
00:58 First we will learn how to insert a new row or a new column in the spreadsheet.
01:05 In our Personal-Finance-Tracker.ods file, let's click on the cell C1.
01:12 This cell has “Cost” written in it.
01:16 Now click on the Row icon in the Standard toolbar.
01:21 Many options related to rows are displayed in the context menu.
01:27 Notice 2 specific options Insert Rows Above and Insert Rows Below.
01:35 I will click on the option Insert Rows Above.
01:40 A new row gets inserted just above the cell C1.
01:45 Now click on the Column icon in the Standard toolbar.
01:50 Many options related to columns are displayed in the context menu.
01:56 Notice 2 specific options Insert Columns before and Insert Columns after.
02:04 I will click on the option Insert Columns Before.
02:09 A new column gets inserted to the left of the cell C1.
02:14 Let’s undo these changes.
02:17 Rows and columns can be inserted by clicking on Sheet menu in the menu bar, as well.
02:25 Another quick way to insert a new row or column is by right-clicking on any cell.
02:32 Right-click on cell C1 and click on Insert option.
02:38 The Insert Cells dialog box opens.
02:42 Here choose as per your requirement and click on the Ok button.
02:48 Explore these options on your own for your understanding.
02:53 I will skip this and click the Cancel button to close the dialog box.
02:58 Next, we’ll learn to insert multiple rows and columns at the same time.
03:04 Let’s say we want to insert 4 columns before SN which is cell A1.
03:11 So select the cells A1 to D1 by clicking and dragging the left mouse button.

All the 4 cells get selected.

03:21 Right-click anywhere on the selection and select Insert.
03:26 In the Insert Cells dialog box, click on the option Entire Column.
03:32 Then click on the OK button at the bottom.
03:36 Notice that 4 new columns get added before Serial Number.
03:42 Now click any random cell to deselect.
03:46 In a similar manner, we can add multiple rows as well.

Explore this on your own.

03:54 Next we will learn about how to delete columns individually and in groups.
04:00 Select any one column by clicking on the alphabet of the column above, as shown.
04:07 Now click on the Column icon in the Standard toolbar and then on Delete Columns option.

The selected column gets deleted.

04:18 Suppose we want to delete more than one column at a time.
04:23 In my case, I want to delete these 3 columns which we inserted just now.
04:30 So, select the 3 columns by clicking on the alphabet of the column above, as shown.
04:38 All the 3 columns get selected.
04:41 Now click on the Column icon in the Standard toolbar and then on Delete Columns option.
04:49 The selected columns get deleted.
04:53 In a similar manner, we can delete multiple rows as well.

Explore this on your own.

05:01 We will now learn about how to insert and delete sheets in Calc.
05:07 There are several ways to insert a new sheet in Calc.
05:12 We will learn about each one of them one-by-one.
05:17 At the bottom left, we see a tab named Sheet 1.
05:22 There are some icons located before that.
05:26 When we click on the Plus icon, a new sheet named Sheet2 gets added.
05:33 This new sheet gets added to the right of the current one.
05:38 We can also add sheets by clicking on the empty area next to the Sheet tabs.
05:46 By doing so, the Insert Sheet dialog box opens up.
05:52 Using this dialog box, we can add a sheet before or after the current sheet.
05:59 We can also add any no. of sheets at a time.
06:03 Under Position, I will select Before the current sheet.

And in No. of sheets, I will specify 2.

06:12 And then click on the OK button at the bottom.
06:17 Notice that Sheet 3 and Sheet 4 get added before Sheet 2.
06:24 Another way to insert sheets is to click on the Sheet menu in the menu bar.

Then click on Insert Sheet.

06:33 On doing so, the Insert Sheet dialog box opens up.
06:39 I will skip this and click on the Cancel button at the bottom.
06:44 Next let us learn how to delete sheets.
06:48 Sheets can be deleted individually or in groups.
06:53 To delete a single sheet, right-click on the tab of the sheet you wish to delete.
06:59 And then, select the Delete Sheet option.
07:03 A confirmation dialog box pops up.

Click on the Yes button.

07:10 The selected sheet gets deleted.
07:14 How can we delete multiple sheets at a time?
07:18 For example, say we want to delete Sheet 2 and Sheet 3.
07:24 First click on the Sheet 2 tab.
07:27 Then holding the Shift key on the keyboard, click on Sheet 3 tab.
07:33 Now right-click on any one of the tabs and click on the Delete Sheet option.
07:40 A confirmation dialog box pops up.
07:44 Click on the Yes button to delete the sheet.

Both the sheets get deleted.

07:51 Let us undo these changes by pressing Ctrl + Z keys.
07:57 Sheets are named by default as Sheet 1, Sheet 2, Sheet 3 and likewise.
08:04 Calc has a provision to rename the sheets based on our needs.
08:09 For example, let’s rename Sheet 2 as “Dump”.
08:14 Do this by simply double-clicking on Sheet 2 tab.
08:19 Rename Sheet dialog box opens up.
08:23 There is a textbox with Sheet 2 written in it.
08:27 Delete this and type “Dump” as the new name.
08:31 Click on the OK button.
08:35 Sheet 2 tab has now been renamed to “Dump”.
08:40 Let us undo these changes by pressing Ctrl + Z keys.
08:46 We can manually rearrange the sheets by clicking on a sheet

And dragging it to the desired location.

08:54 Save the file by pressing Ctrl+S keys on the keyboard.
09:01 Now close the file by clicking the X icon on the top right corner.
09:08 This brings us to the end of this tutorial. Let us summarize.
