Title: Install MarcEditor on Windows

Title Slide Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Installation of MarcEditor on Windows.
Learning Objective In this tutorial we will learn:
  • To Install MarcEditor on a 64-bit Windows machine.
System requirements To record this tutorial, I’m using
  1. Windows 10 Pro Operating System
  2. Firefox web browser
Pre-requisites Slide
  1. Windows 10, 8 or 7
  2. Any text editor
  3. Any web browser

For eg: Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome

This tutorial is most suitable for library staff.

Before moving ahead, please ensure that you have the following on your machine-

  1. Windows 10, 8 or 7
  2. Any web browser

Excel to MARC

In your existing library, you may have the library records in an Excel spreadsheet.

And your library is now being migrated to Koha Library Management System.

So all the records will need to be converted from Excel into MARC format.

Important:

  • The records in Excel data sheet format will have to be converted into MARC file
  • Then imported into Koha
  • As Koha does not have the provision to import Excel data
It is important to know that-
  • the records in Excel spreadsheet will first have to be converted into MARC format
  • And then imported into Koha.

This is because Koha does not have the provision to directly import data which is in Excel format.

Narration only Let us begin.

To convert Excel data into MARK file i.e. .(dot) mrk format, we will be using MarcEdit software.

To install this software, on the browser type the given url: https://marcedit.reeset.net/downloads

To install this software, go to the browser and type this URL.

A new page with the heading Downloads, opens.
Under Current Development >> locate MarcEdit 7.0.x/MacOS 3.0.x >> point to the link Linux Windows Under Current Development-
  • go to MarcEdit 7.0.x/MacOS 3.0.x
  • locate Windows 64-bit download
Point to the link Windows 32-bit download but don’t click However, if you have a 32-bit machine, then you should click on the link Windows 32-bit download.
Go to the bottom left corner of the machine >> Click on the Start icon >> in the search-box, type Settings. To check whether your machine is 32-bit or 64-bit, go to the bottom left corner of the machine.

Click on the Start icon.

Scroll up and click on Settings

Click on System >> Point to the options on the left side >> Locate and click on About From these icons, click on System (Display, notifications, apps, power).

This opens another window, with few options on the left side.

Locate the tab About and click on it.

On the same page, towards the right side, under the section PC, locate System type.


The details of your machine’s operating system will be displayed.

Point to 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor For my machine, it says 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Narration only After reading the details, close the window.

To do so, go to top right corner and click on the cross mark.

Point to Downloads We will again come back to the same page, Downloads.
Click on 64-bit download As my machine is 64-bit, I will click on 64-bit download

  1. Non-Administrator and
  2. Administrator
Another new window with the heading 64-bit download opens with two sections-
  1. Non-Administrator and
  2. Administrator
Click on Download MarcEdit 7 (Administrator Users) Next, I will click on Download MarcEdit 7 link at the bottom of the Administrator section.

This is because I am the designated Koha administrator of my library.

A new pop-window-

MacrEdit_Setup64Admin.msi?

From: marcedit.reeset.net

Highlight the following options-

Save File

Cancel

A dialog box MacrEdit_Setup64Admin.msi appears.


We can see 2 options here-

  • Save File and
  • Cancel
Click on Save File Click on the Save File button at the bottom.
Go to Downloads folder After doing so, go to the Downloads folder of your machine.
Point to the file MacrEdit_Setup64Admin.msi Here you can see that the file MacrEdit_Setup64Admin.msi has been saved.
Right-click on the file >> select Install Now, right-click on the saved file and from the options that appear, click on Install
Click on Yes In the User Account Control dialog box, click on Yes.

Welcome to the MarcEdit 7(64-bit Administrator Installation) Setup Wizard

Another window with the name Welcome to the MarcEdit 7 Setup Wizard appears.
Click on Next Click on the Next button at the bottom of the page.
Point to the window title License Agreement Another new window with the title License Agreement, opens.
Highlight-

License Agreement

Read the License Agreement carefully.

And from the 2 options, I do not agree and I agree, click on the I Agree radio button.

Click on Next Then, click on the Next button at the bottom of the window.
Point to Select Installation Folder A new window named Select Installation Folder, opens.
Point to the path of the folder It shows the path of the folder where the installed software will be saved.
Point to the field under Folder Alternately, you may install this software in a different folder of your choice.

Do so by typing the required path in the field Folder.

Browse

You can also click on the tab Browse and select the desired path.
Narration only However, I will keep the folder path as it is, in the field Folder.
Click on Next Now click on the Next button at the bottom of the window.

MarcEdit 7(64-bit Administrator Installation)

Another new window Confirm Installation opens.
Click on Next Now click on the Next button at the bottom of the same window.

Installing MarcEdit 7 window opens.
Point to Installation Complete

Point to MarcEdit 7(64-bit Administrator Installation) has been successfully installed

After this we see a success message window.

It says

  • Installation Complete.
  • MarcEdit 7 has been successfully installed.
Click on the tab Close Click on the Close button to exit this window.
Highlight MarcEdit 7.0.250 By Terry Reese A window with the title MarcEdit 7.0.250 By Terry Reese opens.
Minimize all the open windows Now minimize all the windows that are open.
Point to the shortcut icon. You will see that a shortcut is created on the Desktop
Summary slide With this, we have successfully installed MarcEditor on the Desktop of on a 64-bit Windows machine.
