00:01 Welcome to the spoken tutorial on how to create a Superlibrarian.
00:06 In this tutorial, we will learn to- add a Patron category,
00:11 Create a Patron,
00:14 Create a Superlibrarian and
00:17 Give access to a Staff for a particular module.
00:22 To record this tutorial, I am using:

Ubuntu Linux OS 16.04 and Koha version 16.05.

00:35 To follow this tutorial, learners should have knowledge of Library Science.
00:42 To practice this tutorial, you should have Koha installed on your system.
00:48 And, You should also have Admin access in Koha.
00:53 Please refer to the Koha spoken tutorial series on this website for more details.
01:00 Let us begin by learning how to add a Patron category.
01:05 Log in to Koha using your database administrator username and password.
01:13 Click on Koha Administration.
01:18 Under Patrons and circulation, click on Patron categories.
01:24 A new page Patron categories opens.
01:28 Click on New Category.
01:31 A new page, New category opens up, prompting us to fill in some details.
01:38 As mentioned before, note that the fields marked in red are mandatory.
01:45 I have filled out a few details here. Please do so likewise.
01:51 For Category type: from the drop-down list, select Staff.
01:57 For Branches limitation: select All Branches.
02:02 Next, click on Save at the bottom of the page.
02:07 The category name that we entered, appears on the page Patron categories.
02:14 In my case, it says Library Staff.
02:19 With this, a Patron Category has been created.
02:23 Next, we will learn how to add a Patron.
02:28 Click on Home at the top left corner.
02:32 The Koha homepage opens with a dialog box prompting us to Create a Patron.
02: 39 It is mandatory to create a Patron. Otherwise in database administrator role, some parts of Koha will not function.
02:50 As prompted in the dialog- box, click on Create Patron.
02:56 Alternately, you may click on Patrons on the Koha home page.
03:02 I will click on Create Patron.
03:06 A new page opens. Click on the tab New Patron.
03:12 From the drop-down, I will select Library Staff.
03:17 A new page- Add patron (Library Staff), opens up.
03:22 Now, fill in the details required under the various sections like:

Patron identity,

Main address,

Contact etc.

03:34 I have filled out few details as shown here.
03:39 If you don’t have information for any field listed here, then just leave it blank.
03:47 Pause the video and fill in all details and then resume the video.
03:53 Under the section Library management, locate the field Card Number.
04:01 Note that the number 1 is auto-generated by Koha.
04:07 Hence, you will see a different number on your Koha interface.
04:13 Next is Library.
04:16 From the drop-down, I will select Spoken Tutorial Library.
04:21 Recall: the Spoken Tutorial Library was created earlier in this series.
04:28 If you had given a different name, then choose that name here.
04:34 For Category, I will select Library Staff from the drop-down.
04:40 Under the section OPAC/Staff login, enter Username and Password.
04:47 Each new user should create a new Username and Password.
04:53 I will enter the Username as Bella,
04:57 Password as library.
05:00 Again, enter the same password in Confirm password: field.
05:06 Remember this username and password.
05:10 This will be used a little later to give rights/permissions to a Staff.
05:17 After filling in all the details, go to the top of the page and click on Save.
05:25 A new page with the name of the Patron and card number opens.
05:31 In this case, as entered earlier, the page has Patron as Ms Bella Tony with card number 1.
05:41 To edit the sections, click on the Edit tab, located at the bottom of the respective sections.
05:49 Now let us learn how to give permissions to the Patrons.
05:55 On the same page, locate the tab More and click on Set Permissions.
06:03 A new page with the title Set permissions for Bella Tony, opens up.
06:09 Click on the check-box for (superlibrarian) Access to all librarian functions.

06:21 Now, Superlibrarian Ms Bella Tony, having access to all library functions, has been created.
06:30 With this superlibrarian account, we can give rights/permissions to a Staff.
06:37 So, it’s a very important role in the Koha Library Management System.
