Learning Objectives;

In this tutorial, we will learn about;

  • Add ons
  • Mozilla Firefox Sync
Welcome to the tutorial in the advanced level for Mozilla Firefox. In this tutorial, we will learn about;
  • Add ons
  • Mozilla Firefox Sync

Go to tools → add ons

Add-ons are like apps that you install to add bells & whistles to Firefox.

You can get add-ons that compare prices, check the weather, change the look of Firefox, listen to music, or even update your Facebook profile.

This article covers the different types of add-ons available and how to find and install them.

All the add ons can be viewed by going to tools → add ons

As you see this this page has 4 tabs, let’s look at each of these in turn.

Go to tools → add ons

The addons manager tab opens up. On the left, you can see a number of tabs.

These are for different purposes. For our purpose, we need a new add on, so leave all the tabs untouched.

In the search bar type 'drag' and press the enter key

On the result that say 'grab and drag' click on install.

On the user agreement click accept and install.

Click the 'allow' button.

Let's first take a look at 'Extensions'

Extensions are Firefox add-ons that provide additional functionality to Firefox.

People all over the world have developed thousands of extensions for Firefox.

There are extensions that allow you to block advertisements, download videos from websites, integrate more closely with websites like Facebook or Twitter, and add features you see in other browsers.

Let's say we want to install an extension which gives us the ability to navigate by grabbing and dragging.

To install it, the procedure is like this.

Go to tools → addons

The addons manager tab opens up. On the left, you can see a number of tabs. These are for different purposes.

For our purpose, we need a new add on, so leave all the tabs untouched. In the search bar type 'drag' and press the enter key

This brings up all the addons that have the word drag in the title.

Since we are looking for an addon that will help us to navigate in a grab and drag style similar to adobe acrobat, on the result that say 'grab and drag' click on install.

The purpose of this button is to download the addon onto your computer and configure it for Mozilla Firefox.

As with other software’s, some of these addons may have user agreements dealing with how you can use them.

Read the user agreement which pops up.

On the user agreement click accept and install.

The addon is now downloaded, but it will not be usable until you restart Mozilla Firefox.

Click on the restart now link

That's it!

Your new add on is now installed.

The first time you open Mozilla Firefox the browser sometimes gives a message, 'firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on your computer'

If this happens, click the 'allow' button.

Next, we'll take a look at the appearance tab, which handles themes and personas,

Click on the URL bar and type

hhttps://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/themes

Click on Shine Bright Skin.

Click on 'continue to download'

Click on add to firefox

Once the download is complete, the software installation window appears.

When the Install button becomes available click install

Click on restart now.

A theme changes how Mozilla Firefox looks. A theme could simply change the toolbar's background colors, change how buttons look, or make Firefox look like a completely different program.

Now we will look at how to change the theme of Mozilla Firefox.

Click on the URL bar and type

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/themes

This takes us to the themes page for the Mozilla Firefox addons.

We see a large number of themes here. The thumbnails show you how they would appear.

Click on Shine Bright Skin.

This is one of many themes available on this page.

This takes you to the theme page. Here you can preview the theme, read reviews and see ratings by other users who have used the theme.

Click on 'continue to download'

This page tells you a little about the developer of the theme and more details.

Click on add to firefox

Once the download is complete, the software installation window appears.

When the Install button becomes available click install

Click on restart now.

Mozilla Firefox shuts down. When it restarts, the new theme is applied.

There are hundreds of themes available and many are being developed every day.

Themes can help to improve your internet experience, since the color and look and feel of the browser is customized to your unique taste.

Go to tools → addons

Go to the appearance tab

Where you see the default theme, click on the enable button.

Click on the restart link.

Mozilla Firefox will shut down and restart.

See if you like this theme.

If you don't you can always download another one in the same way. Or to go back to the default theme do this;

Go to tools → addons

Go to the appearance tab

Where you see the default theme, click on the enable button.

Click on the restart link.

Mozilla Firefox will shut down and restart.

When it restarts, the default theme is once again visible.

Go to Personas at Addons.Mozilla.org.

Click on the Add to Firefox button. The Software Installation window will appear.

When the Install Now button becomes available, click on it.

Click Restart Firefox when prompted. Firefox will restart and the Personas extension will be installed.

Once Personas is installed:

Go to the Personas Gallery.

Move the mouse pointer over one of the themes to preview it.

When you see a theme you like, click on it to see its theme page.

Click Wear this Persona to install the new theme.

Personas are free, easy-to-install "skins" for Firefox.

Personas Plus extends that built-in functionality to give you even greater control and easier access to new, popular, and even your own favourite Personas.

Installing the add-on places a small "fox mask" icon in your status bar or add-on bar which, when you click on it, pops up a menu where you can select, change, or even randomize your Firefox Persona.

After you click Wear this Persona, the Notification bar will appear to alert you that a new theme was installed.

Go to http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using%20plugins%20with%20Firefox?s=plugins&r=2&as=s A plugin is a piece of software that manage internet content that Firefox is not designed to process.

These usually include patented formats for video, audio, online games, presentations, and more.

Plugins are created and distributed by other companies.

Each plugin has a different method of installation go to the Mozilla Firefox plugin page for details.
