00:01 Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Assembly of Robot.
00:05 In this tutorial, we will learn:
00:07 To assemble a simple Robot
00:10 About dot apk file to control a Robot and
00:15 How to install the app on a mobile phone.
00:18 To follow this tutorial, you should have a basic knowledge of Electronics
00:24 To record this tutorial, here I am using:
00:28 Ubuntu Linux 16.04 OS

Android Phone

00:34 We require the following components to build the simple robot.
00:38 2 DC Motors
00:40 Acrylic Robot Chassis with screws and nuts
00:44 1 Caster Wheel
00:46 2 DC Motor Wheels
00:49 Single Strand Wires and
00:51 Screwdriver
00:54 In this tutorial, we will see how to assemble a two wheel robot.
01:00 I will explain the assembly of a robot along with the images.
01:05 First we need to solder DC motor’s wire leads as shown in the image.
01:11 Using a soldering iron, solder a red wire and a black wire to the wire leads of the motor as shown.
01:19 Repeat this with the other DC motor as well.
01:23 This is the acrylic chassis where we will mount the DC motor and Caster Wheel.
01:29 Along with the chassis we have Motor Mounting Brackets, screws and nuts.
01:35 These are the Motor Mounting Brackets.
01:38 They are used to fix the DC motors to the frame.
01:42 Insert the bracket into the indicated slot.
01:47 Now, place one DC motor here.
01:51 Place another Motor Mounting Bracket from the outside.
01:56 Take the long screws and insert them into the two brackets and motor.
02:02 Use a nut from the other side to tighten the screw.
02:06 Repeat this procedure for mounting the other motor on the chassis as well.
02:12 Fix the wheels on the motors as shown here.
02:17 First, fix the brass spacers on the chassis with the help of screws as shown in the image.
02:25 Tighten the screws with a screwdriver.
02:29 Now, flip the chassis to mount the caster wheel on the same side as the motor.
02:35 Mount the caster wheel on four brass spacers using the small screws.
02:42 Tighten up each screws so that the caster wheel gets firmly fixed to the chassis.
02:48 Now, we are done with assembling the robot.
02:51 Further, we need an App to control the robot.
02:55 An APK file is an app for the Android Google's mobile operating system.
03:01 We have built an android app to control the robot which we have built.
03:07 This won't work on other mobile operating systems like Apple’s iOS.
03:13 We have used the MIT App Inventor platform to build an app named Car Bluetooth RC
03:21 To use this app on your phone, you need to download this dot apk file.
03:27 Let us go to the MIT App inventor website and have a look.
03:32 In the web browser, type appinventor dot mit dot edu
03:40 MIT App Inventor is an open source platform to build applications for both Android and iOS.
03:49 Go through the tutorials and instructions on this website, for more information.
03:55 Using the MIT app inventor, I have created the Car Bluetooth RC dot apk file.
04:02 Similarly, you can explore, and create your own app for your project using the MIT App Inventor.

04:19 Make a copy and then use it while practising.
04:23 Let's first see how to install this app and how to configure it.
04:28 I have downloaded the Car Bluetooth RC dot apk file into my Downloads folder in my computer.
04:36 Go to Google drive.
04:38 In the left panel, click on the New option.
04:42 Select File upload option.
04:45 A File Upload pop-up window will open.
04:48 Select the dot apk file from where you have downloaded.
04:52 Now click on the Open option.
04:55 After a few seconds, the dot apk file will be uploaded on your Google drive.
05:01 Next we will see how to open this file in the Android phone.
05:05 Otherwise you can transfer the dot apk file from your computer to the phone using an USB cable.
05:12 Now open Google drive in your Android phone.
05:16 Note: Make sure you are using the same email account' where you have saved the dot apk file
05:23 Click on the dot apk file that you uploaded from your computer.
05:27 Select Package Installer option.
05:30 It will ask if you want to install this application.
05:34 Click on Install option.
05:37 Now the app is installed on your phone.
05:40 You can see the Car Bluetooth RC icon on your mobile phone.
05:45 We will see how we can control a robot using this app in the next tutorial.
