Let’s create a geometry chart
which shows a 2D shape and
its equivalent 3D form
Ex: A square is a 2D object
A cube is its 3D form

|Switch to a Draw file named as 3DObjectsChart.
||We have a new Draw file here named as 3DObjectsChart.

||Before we begin the drawing, let’s enable the grids and the guidelines.
We have learnt about this in previous tutorials.

|Click on View >> Grid >> Display Grid

Click on View >> Guides >> Display Guides.
||From the Main menu, click on View select Grid and Display Grid
Then again click on View >> Select Guides >> and Display Guides.

|-
|Point to the Ruler
||I want to set both the rulers to centimeters.

|-
|Place the mouse pointer >> horizontal ruler. Right-click >> Select Centimeters.
|| Place the mouse pointer on the horizontal ruler.
Now right-click and select Centimeter.

|-
|Place the mouse pointer >> vertical ruler.
Right-click >> Select Centimeters.
||Place the mouse pointer on the vertical ruler.
Again, right-click and select Centimeter.

|Draw the box as shown in Figure 1.
<<Please ensure all the objects are placed within the margin. Or they will get cut when printing.>>
||Let us now draw a text box on the top of the page.

|Enter the text Geometric Shapes in 2D and 3D inside it.
||Let’s insert the text Geometric shapes in 2D and 3D inside it.

||Let us now divide the page into two vertical halves using a snap line.

|-
|Click >> vertical ruler and drag it to the Draw page.

||Click on the vertical ruler and drag it to the Draw page.
A vertical dotted line appears.

|Place the dotted line on the page Point the page is divided two halves.
||Place the dotted line on the page such that the page is divided into two halves.

|Insert a text box on the left side
Type >> 2D Shapes inside it.
||Let’s insert a text box on the left side and type 2D Shapes inside it.

|Insert a text box on the right side
Type >> 3D Shapes inside it.
||Let’s draw another text box on the right side and type 3D Shapes inside it.

||Let us enable the 3D toolbars.

|From the Main menu >> click on View >> select Toolbars >> select 3D-Objects.
||From the Main menu, click on View, select Toolbars and 3D-Objects.

|Click on View >> Select Toolbars >> 3D-settings.
||Again click on View, select Toolbars and 3D-settings.

|Point to the respective boxes
||The 3D-Objects and 3D-Settings tool boxes are displayed.

||We will first draw the 2D shapes.

|Draw a rectangle, a square, a circle and a triangle one below the other as shown in slide 4. <Pause>
||We will draw a rectangle, a square, a circle and a triangle.
And place them one below the other.

● Create 3D objects by Extrusion
● The method of
● obtaining a 3D object

● is called Extrusion.

Basically, the surface is moved outward, to create the 3D object.

|Select rectangle >> color it Turquoise 1
||First, let us change the colour of the rectangle to Turquoise 1

|Use the CTRL+C keys and create a copy of the rectangle. Press the CTRL+V keys to paste it.

Let’s make a copy of the rectangle.

|Drag the copied rectangle and place it on right half of the page.
||Let’s drag the copied rectangle and place it on right half of the page.

|Select the copied rectangle and
right-click to view the context menu.
||Now, while it is still selected, right-click to view the context menu.

|Click on Convert >> Select To 3D
||Now click on Convert and select To 3D.

||The 2D rectangle is converted to a cuboid.

|Double click on the box rectangle and Type the name as Rectangle <Pause>
||Let’s type “Rectangle” inside the rectangle shape.

|Double click on the right side 3D rectangle box
||However, we cannot type text inside 3D objects.

||To type text, we need to use the Text tool.

|-
|Click on the Text tool >> Draw a text box inside the Cuboid
||Click on the Text tool and draw a Text box inside the Cuboid.

|Type the text Cuboid inside it.
||Type the text Cuboid inside it.

|-
|Select the text box and the Cuboid. 
right click and click on Group
||The Text box and the Cuboid are treated as two separate objects.
Therefore, let’s Group them.

|Select the Square >> colour Turquoise 1 >> right click >> select 3D objects 
Select the Circle >> >> colour Turquoise 1 >> right click >> select 3D objects 
Select the Triangle >> >> colour Turquoise 1 >> right click >> select 3D objects
||Similarly, we can colour and convert the Square, Circle and Triangle into 3D objects.

||Let’s select a shape from the 3D-Objects toolbar, say Shell.

|Move the mouse to the page and drag it on the page.
||Then draw it on the page.

||Draw also allows you to create 3D objects using body rotation on 2D objects.

|Select the circle on the drawing toolbar
and drag to Draw a circle
||Let’s draw a 2D shape, say a circle on our Draw page.

|Right-click >> select Convert >> choose To 3D Rotation Object
||Right-click for the context menu and select Convert.
Then choose To 3D Rotation Object.

|Point to the 3D object.
||Observe what happens to the circle.
It is now a 3D object.

||You can also use Fontwork Gallery to create 3D text objects.

| Go to the drawing toolbar and point to the Fontwork Gallery icon >> then click on it.
||Click on the Fontwork Gallery icon on the Drawing toolbar at the bottom.

|Select Favorite 16 >> click on OK.
||Let us select Favorite 16 and click on the OK button.

||The text Fontwork is displayed on our Draw page.

||So let us select it and right-click for the context menu. Now select 3D Effects.

|Point to Geometry, Segments, Normals
||You can see various options here.

|Change Depth to 3cm.
||For demo purpose, let us change Depth parameter to 3cm.

|Under Segments >> Horizontal = 12
||Under Segments, let us change Horizontal to 12

|Under Normals >> select Flat.
||Under Normals, let us select Flat option.

|Point to the preview window.
||Observe the appearance of the object in the preview window.

|Point to the Assign icon on the top-right hand corner of the dialog box >> now click it

||Now click on the Assign icon at the top-right hand corner of the dialog box.

|Click on the X mark at the top-left hand corner of the dialog box.
||Next, click on the X mark at the top-left hand corner to exit the dialog box.

||Observe our shape now. The effects we selected have been applied to it.
