00:01 Hello and welcome to the spoken tutorial on Downloading and Installing Salome.
00:08 In this tutorial, we will see

how to download and install Salome.

00:15 To record this tutorial, I am using:
  • Linux operating system Ubuntu version 12.10 and
  • Salome version 6.6.0.
00:26 Let me introduce you to Salome.
  • It is an open source software.
  • It can be used in Pre and Post-processing for numerical simulation.
  • It is advantageous for creating complex 'CAD' geometries than blockMesh utility in OpenFOAM.
00:47 To install Salome, open the Firefox browser.
00:52 In the link bar, type:

http://www.salome-platform.org Press Enter. Now you are on the Salome website.

01:07 On the left hand side, you will see Navigation bar.
01:12 At the bottom of the Navigation bar, you will see New user option. Click on it.
01:22 It will direct you to the window where you will have to put your personal details.
01:32 After putting the personal details, click on the Register tab at the bottom.
01:40 You will be directed to the screen showing the message that "you have been registered". It also states that, to complete the registration process you will have to log in to your email.
01:58 In your email account, open the email from Salome.
02:06 Click on the link given in it.
02:12 The link will direct you to the window where you will have to set your password.
02:19 After putting the password and confirming it, click on Set my password button.
02:26 It will direct you to the window stating that "Your password has been set successfully. You may now log in with your new password".
02:37 At the bottom of the NAVIGATION bar, you can put your Login Name and Password to log in.
02:46 Now, in the Navigation bar, click on Downloads.
02:54 You will be directed to the page where you will see various Binaries to download for different Linux platforms.
03:05 As I am using 64-bit architecture, I will download Debian 6.0 Squeeze 64 bit binary.
03:15 Click on it. Click on Save File option. click on OK. It will take some time to download.
03:27 Now scroll down. You will see Universal Binaries for Linux.
03:32 You have to download the appropriate version. I will download 64 bit Linux version.
03:40 Again click on Save file. Click on Ok. It will take a while. I have already downloaded the files.
03:51 Now, open the Home folder. Go to Downloads from the left hand side options.
03:57 The downloaded files are found here. One file is the tar file and another is self-extracting file.
04:05 Copy these two fles.
04:09 Go back to the Home folder and paste the two files here.
04:14 Now double-click on install Wizzard tar file.
04:20 New window will open. Click on Extract menu at the top.
04:25 Now, click on Extract tab. After the extraction is complete, click on Quit.
04:34 Intall Wizzard has been extracted in the Home folder.
04:38 Now minimize Home folder.
04:41 Open command terminal.
04:44 Type "ls" and press Enter. We are in the Home folder.
04:51 Go to Install Wizard folder by typing cd (space) (capital) I and press Tab key to automatically get the whole file name.

Press Enter.

05:08 To start installation, type: . (dot) / (slash) runInstall (space) - (hyphen) b and press Enter.
05:24 Type 1 (one) for debian install. The installation process would start.
05:31 After it has been installed, close the terminal. Open a new terminal.
