00:00 Welcome to this spoken tutorial on Themes in Mozilla Firefox.
00:05 In this tutorial, we will learn about: Themes, Personas, Ad blocking in Mozilla Firefox.
00:13 Mozilla Firefox offers customization to suit the tastes or preferences of the user.
00:20 One of the customization is Themes.
00:23 A theme: * changes how Firefox looks.
00:27 * Changes the background colors, the look of the buttons and the layout.
00:32 In this tutorial, we are using Firefox version 7.0 on Ubuntu 10.04.
00:40 Let us open a Firefox browser.
00:43 Let us first learn how to change the Theme of Mozilla Firefox.
00:48 First, let’s enable the Load images automatically option so that we can view the images displayed in the browser.
00:58 From the Menu bar, click on Edit and then Preferences.
01:03 In the Preferences dialog box, choose the Content tab.
01:08 Check the Load images automatically box.
01:12 Click Close.
01:14 Now, click on the URL bar and type: addons dot mozilla dot org slash firefox slash themes
01:25 press Enter.
01:27 This takes us to the Themes page for Mozilla Firefox Add-ons.
01:32 We see a large number of themes here as thumbnails.
01:37 The thumbnails show you how the themes would appear.
01:41 Here you can preview the theme,
01:43 see the categories of themes available and
01:46 see the ratings given by other users who have used the theme.
01:52 Let us hover our mouse pointer over some themes. <Pause>
01:57 Now, click on the theme Shine Bright Skin.
02:01 This is one of many themes available on this page.
02:05 The Shine Bright Skin theme page appears.
02:09 Click on the Continue to Download button.
02:12 This takes you to a page which gives additional details about the theme.
02:17 Click on the Add to Firefox button to install the theme.
02:22 The Add-on downloading progress bar appears.
02:27 Next, a Software Installation confirmation message appears.
02:32 Click Install Now.
02:34 A message that the 'theme will be installed once you restart Firefox' is displayed.
02:40 Click Restart Now.
02:43 Mozilla Firefox shuts down.
02:46 When it restarts, the new themes is applied.
02:51 Let’s go back to our Themes page.
02:54 Now let us choose another theme.
02:57 This theme displays Add to Firefox button.
03:01 This will download the chosen theme.
03:05 Once the download is complete, a warning message window appears.
03:10 Click on the Install Now button.
03:13 You will be prompted to restart the Firefox browser.
03:16 Click on Restart now button.
03:19 Mozilla Firefox shuts down.
03:22 When it restarts, the new themes are applied.
03:27 So you see, Themes help to improve the look and feel of the browser.
03:31 It customizes the Firefox browser to your unique taste.
03:36 If, for some reason, you wish to go back to the default theme
03:40 then just click on Tools and Add-ons.
03:44 On the left panel, click on the Appearance tab.
03:48 Here all the themes which have been downloaded are visible.
03:53 See the Default Theme here.
03:56 Click on the Enable button.
03:59 Click on the Restart now button.
04:02 Mozilla Firefox will shut down and restart.
04:06 When it restarts, the default theme is once again visible.
04:12 Let’s close the Add-ons tab.
04:16 Personas are free, easy-to-install skins for Firefox.
04:22 Personas Plus extends this built-in functionality:

04:28 * easier access to new, popular and even your own favorite Personas.
04:34 Click on the URL bar and type:

04:47 This takes us to the Personas page for Mozilla Firefox Add-ons.
04:52 We see a large number of 'Personas' here.
04:56 Click on any Persona of your choice.
05:01 This will take you to a page which gives details of the chosen Persona.
05:06 Click on the Add to Firefox button.
05:09 A Notification bar will appear at the top to alert you that a new theme is installed.
05:16 Click on the small “x” mark on the right of the Notification bar.
05:21 Firefox installs this Persona automatically.
05:28 Often ads interfere with our internet experience.
05:32 But there are specialized software that help to block ads.
05:36 One such add-on is Adblock.
05:39 Click on Tools and then on Add-ons.
05:43 In the search tab, at the top-right corner, search for Adblock.

Press Enter.

05:51 A list of Ad blocking software is displayed.
05:55 Click on the Install button for Adblock Plus.
05:59 'Adblock' starts downloading.
06:02 That's it! Ad blocker is now installed.
06:06 A notification message will be displayed which says- “Adblock will be installed after you restart Firefox”.
06:14 Click on the Restart now link.
06:17 Mozilla Firefox will shut down and restart.
06:21 When it restarts, the ad blocker will take effect.
06:25 However, using ad blockers have some negative consequences.
06:30 Some sites do not allow you to enter them when ad blocker is on.
06:35 This is because many free sites earn their income from ads.
06:41 Adblocker may prevent some sites from being displayed on your browser.
06:46 This factor has to be considered carefully when blocking ads.
06:51 This brings us to the end of this tutorial.
