00:00 Welcome to the Spoken Tutorial on Extensions in Mozilla Firefox.
00:05 In this tutorial, we will learn about: Extensions or Add-ons, installing Extensions, recommended Extensions.
00:14 Here we are using Firefox 7.0 on Ubuntu 10.04.
00:20 Let us open the Firefox browser.
00:23 By default, the yahoo home page opens.
00:27 What are Extensions or Add-ons?
00:29 Extensions allow you to:
00:31 Add new features to the Firefox browser.
00:35 Enhance existing features.
00:37 Customize the Firefox browser to suit your preferences.
00:42 Extensions are a part of the Firefox browser
00:45 and extend the browser’s capabilities.
00:48 For example, you can install extensions that:
00:51 Block advertisements or pop-ups.
00:54 Compare prices of commodities and even
00:56 display weather updates.
01:00 Let’s install the Grab and Drag extension.
01:03 Grab and Drag let’s you scroll through web pages in various ways.
01:07 It is similar to the 'grab and drag' function in Adobe Acrobat.
01:12 From the Menu bar, click Tools and Add-ons.
01:16 The Add-ons Manager tab opens.
01:20 Alternately, you can also press the Ctrl+Shift+A keys together to open the Add-ons Manager tab.
01:28 The left panel in Add-ons Manager displays the available options.
01:34 Notice, by default the option Get Add-ons is selected.
01:39 The right panel displays information for the option selected in the left panel.
01:45 So, the right panel defines Add-ons and tells you how to get started with add-ons.
01:51 It even lists some Add-ons you can install.
01:55 Now, we shall install the new Add-on- Grab and Drag.
01:59 First, in the Search bar, located on the top-right corner, type: Grab and Drag. Press Enter.
02:08 The right panel, now lists the add-ons that best match the name we searched for.
02:14 Also, notice that all the add-ons that have the word drag in the title are displayed.
02:20 Notice that the first name on the list, Grab and Drag, is an exact match.
02:26 Click on Install.
02:28 As with most softwares, some add-ons too may have 'end-user license agreements'.
02:35 On the End-User License Agreement dialog box, click Accept and Install.
02:41 The Add-on downloading progress bar appears.
02:46 Next, a message that the 'add-on will be installed
02:50 when you restart Mozilla Firefox'is displayed.
02:54 Click on Restart Now.
02:57 The Firefox browser closes and reopens.
03:01 The Add-ons Manager opens in a new tab.
03:05 Notice that the Grab and Drag extension is displayed in the right panel of the Extensions tab.
03:11 Following the previous steps, let’s install another extension Scrap Book.
03:18 Scrap Book allows you to save and manage Web page collections.
03:24 Notice that the installation progress bar and the message to close and restart Firefox are not displayed separately.
03:33 They are displayed in the Scrap Book bar.
03:36 Click Restart Now.
03:40 Scrap Book is installed in Firefox.

03:48 In the Firefox browser, open Add-ons Manager.
03:52 Install a new add-on from the Featured Add-ons list, in the Get Add-ons option.

04:35 Now, from the left panel, click on the Extension option.
04:40 Notice, for each Extension you can set preferences, disable or remove it.
04:46 Select Grab and Drag and click on Preferences.
04:49 You can set your preferences using this dialog box.
04:53 Click Cancel to exit the dialog box.
04:57 Now, select Scrap Book and click Preferences.
05:01 Notice that the Scrap Book Options dialog box is different from the Grab and Drag Preferences dialog box.
05:09 Therefore, each Extension has different settings that can be changed.
05:13 If the Preferences button is not visible for an Extension,
05:17 it implies that there are no preferences for it.
05:21 Click Close to exit the ScrapBook Options dialog box.
05:26 As with most softwares, add-ons too are updated on a regular basis.
05:31 To update Scrap Book, select it, right-click and click Find Updates.
05:37 If Updates are found, the Update button is displayed.
05:42 Click on it to update the add-on.
05:47 As there are no updates for Scrap Book, the Update button is not displayed.
05:51 Finally, if you do not want to use an Extension click the Disable button.
05:58 And to remove an Extension from your computer, click Remove.
06:03 We have learnt all about Extensions!
06:06 You can now use Extensions to streamline tasks by adding more functionalities to Firefox.
06:13 You can use the Get Add-ons option to learn about a number of Add-ons.
06:18 You can then select and install Add-ons that are most relevant or useful to you.
